Editorial Policy
Sources
- Primary sources only for requirements: the authority that issues the document, or its official agent (for example a visa application centre named by the embassy).
- Secondary sources such as photo shops or forums are never used for a requirement.
- Each article lists its sources under References. Links to official sites are marked nofollow because they are citations, not endorsements.
Official wording
Photo rules are precise, so paraphrase can change their meaning. When an authority states a rule in its own words we reproduce that wording in quotation marks and cite it. Our own summaries are kept separate from quoted text.
Sizes and calculated values
Print sizes, head heights and digital dimensions are shown as the authority states them. Values such as pixels at 300 dpi are calculated by us and marked as calculated. If an authority does not publish a size (for example when the photo is taken at the counter), the article says so rather than guessing.
Checking and dates
Each article shows the date its sources were last checked. Articles are re-checked periodically and whenever a reader reports a change.
Corrections
Mistakes are corrected as soon as they are confirmed against the official source, and the correction is recorded in the article history.
Ratings
Visitors can rate how useful an article is. Ratings are anonymous, limited to one per visitor per page, and never affect the content of a requirement.
