Quick answer

What size is the Albania eVisa photo?

The Albania e-Visa photo is 36 x 47 mm (1.42 x 1.85 in), which e-visa.al writes height first as 47 mm x 36 mm. Upload it at 425 x 555 pixels (300 DPI); the portal reports other dimensions as invalid. Use a white background and a sharp picture taken within 6 months, facing the camera with a neutral expression and eyes open. Coloured or floral backgrounds, blurred shots and covered faces are not accepted.

Albania's e-Visa is issued through e-visa.al, the online consular service of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The legal basis is Law No. 79/2021 on foreigners and Council of Ministers Decision No. 858 of 29 December 2021, which lists the documents for every visa. You fill in the form online, upload the documents, pay the visa fee at a bank and upload the stamped receipt; the Albanian embassy or consulate handling the file then assesses it. An approved electronic visa is generated by the system, e-mailed to you and available to download as a digitally signed document.

Type C visas cover stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Type D is the long-stay visa that some foreigners need before applying for a residence permit. Many travellers need no visa at all, including holders of a previously used multiple-entry visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, an EU member state, the United States or the United Kingdom, so check the foreign ministry's visa regime page first.

The photo is one of the basic documents for all visa categories. Decision 858 asks for a picture taken within 6 months, 47 mm x 36 mm, on a white background and clearly focused, showing the applicant facing forward with a neutral expression and eyes open and visible. The upload guidelines on e-visa.al turn this into pixels: 555 high by 425 wide at 300 DPI.

Key requirements

  • Exactly 425 x 555 pixels

The upload guidelines on e-visa.al give the photo as 47 mm x 36 mm, or 555 pixels high by 425 pixels wide at 300 DPI. If the image measures anything else, the portal shows a message that the measurement is invalid and repeats those numbers.

  • White background only

Decision 858 requires a white background. The guidance graphic on e-visa.al marks coloured and floral backgrounds as not acceptable, and the model notice for a wrong photo asks for a passport standard photo with a white background.

  • Taken in the last 6 months

The photo must have been taken no earlier than six months before the date of application. An older picture, even if it looks like you, does not meet the rule.

  • Facing the camera, eyes open

Show your face from the front with a neutral expression, and keep both eyes open and visible.

  • Sharp, complete and uncovered

The portal lists blurred photos, portraits that are cut off and faces that are covered among the photos it does not accept. Its example of a correct photo is a full, clear portrait with the face shown clearly.

  • Fix flagged documents within 15 days

If a document is wrong, the mission leaves a comment in the My Application section. Upload the corrected file there; the notice warns that an application risks automatic refusal 15 days later if the requests are not met.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Resize the photo to exactly 425 x 555 pixels before uploading
  • Use a plain white background
  • Use a photo taken within the last 6 months
  • Look straight at the camera with your eyes open and a neutral expression
  • Upload the other documents as scanned PDFs in Albanian or English
  • Check the My Application section for comments from the mission

Don't

  • Do not upload a photo with a coloured, patterned or floral background
  • Do not upload a blurred or out-of-focus picture
  • Do not upload a portrait with part of the head cut off
  • Do not cover any part of your face
  • Do not be in Albania after paying the fee; the applicant must be outside the country
  • Do not contact the authorities during the check unless the mission contacts you

How a Albania eVisa photo should look, and the mistakes that most often get photos rejected. Each example is drawn to this document's 36 × 47 mm and background colour.

Correct
Open-mouth smile
Head tilted
Too close: head too big
Too far: head too small
Busy background
Shadows on face or background
Glare on glasses

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.

Headwear and religious dress

Neither e-visa.al nor Decision 858 mentions hats or religious head coverings. Both insist that the face can be seen: the decision asks for a frontal view with eyes open and visible, and the portal lists covering of the face among the reasons a photo is not acceptable. Keep your whole face uncovered and in view.

Babies and children

The photo is listed among the basic documents for all visa categories, and no separate rule is published for babies or children, so a child's upload follows the same size, background and six-month rule.

For a minor, Decision 858 adds a declaration in Albanian or English in which the parents or legal guardian consent to the child's travel. When a child travels alone or with only one parent, attach to it the birth certificate in Albanian or English, or copies of both parents' passports.

The e-Visa is fully digital. You upload the photo, and an approved electronic visa is sent by e-mail and can be downloaded from the portal as a digitally signed file, so no photo print is requested.

A phone or camera picture has far more pixels than the portal accepts, so crop it to the 36 x 47 mm shape and resize it to 425 x 555 pixels. The portal's guidance graphic labels its example 4 cm x 5 cm, but the written criteria and the size check both use 36 x 47 mm, and an upload of any other size is flagged.

Where to submit the photo

Apply at e-visa.al from any country outside Albania. Create an account, choose the visa type, fill in the form and upload the documents. Then pay the fee at a bank to the account the system gives you, and upload the receipt, signed and stamped by the bank, within 15 days, or the application is refused automatically. Online transfers and screenshots of payments are not accepted as proof.

The application is assessed by the Albanian embassy or consulate responsible for it, and you can follow it with the tracking code sent by e-mail. During the check, the applicant, the inviting person and anyone else are forbidden from contacting the institutions unless the mission makes contact first.

Albania eVisa photo FAQ

Exactly 425 pixels wide and 555 pixels high, which is 36 x 47 mm at 300 DPI. The portal's guidelines state it as 555 px (height) x 425 px (width) x 300 DPI, and an image of other dimensions produces an error saying the measurement is invalid.

Albanian rules give the height first. 47 mm x 36 mm is the same portrait photo described elsewhere as 36 x 47 mm: 36 mm wide and 47 mm tall. It is not a landscape photo.

Not as it is. The portal's guidance graphic is labelled 4 cm x 5 cm, but the written criteria and the upload check require 425 x 555 pixels, the 36 x 47 mm shape at 300 DPI. Re-crop and resize a photo of another size to those exact pixels first.

Yes. Decision 858 asks for a white background, and the guidance on e-visa.al marks coloured and floral backgrounds as not acceptable. Stand in front of a plain white surface with no pattern.

No. Everything is uploaded, and an approved electronic visa is e-mailed to you and can be downloaded as a digitally signed document. No photo print is requested at any stage of the online process.

The mission adds a comment to your application and you receive an e-mail about irregularities. The model notice reads: "Please make sure you upload a passport standard photo with a white background." Upload a corrected photo in My Application; unanswered requests risk automatic refusal 15 days after the notice.

No. The portal says the applicant must be outside the territory of the Republic of Albania after paying the visa fee. Decision 858 also lets you apply online from any country outside Albania, not only your country of nationality.
