Quick answer

What are the Ireland irish Residence Permit (IRP) card photo requirements?

No photo is brought for an Irish Residence Permit card. At the first registration appointment an immigration officer takes the photograph and fingerprints, and the card is posted, usually within 10 working days. Renewals ask for document copies, not a new photo.

The Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card is issued by Immigration Service Delivery (ISD). People from outside the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland who plan to live in Ireland for more than 90 days must register their permission to remain. Since 13 January 2025 registration in the Republic of Ireland is carried out by ISD instead of the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).

First-time registration takes place by appointment at the ISD Registration Office, 13-14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2. The photograph is used on the IRP card, whose microchip holds a copy of the photo, fingerprints and personal details.
