Barbados visa photo requirements
The photo rules set by Barbados Immigration Department for the Barbados visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What are the Barbados visa photo requirements?
Barbados publishes no photo size, background or file format for its visas. The Immigration Department asks for 1 passport-size photograph with an entry visa application, which is now made online, and 2 for adult and minor student visas (1 for a renewal) and for special entry permits. The 5 x 5 cm limit printed on the passport forms is not stated for visas.
Visitors from countries on Barbados's visa list must be granted an entry visa before they book travel. The Immigration Department, part of the Prime Minister's Office, decides visa applications. A visa does not guarantee entry: permission is granted only by the immigration officer at the port of entry.
The department's home page now says the entry visa process is "fully online": applicants apply and pay through its portal. Its Visa Requirements page, which describes the older paper route, lists the documents to submit, including one passport-size photograph, copies of the passport cover and biodata page, a birth certificate and a cover letter addressed to the Chief Immigration Officer. It adds that visa applications were accepted at Barbados missions in North America and Europe. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says all travel visas are obtained through the Immigration Department in Bridgetown.
None of these pages sets a photo size, head position, background colour or digital file size for a visa. That is why this page records what is published: the number of photographs for each kind of visa or permit, and how the application is made. The detailed 5 x 5 cm rule belongs to passports.

|---|---|

| Photo age | Not published; special entry permits ask for "recent" photographs |
Key requirements
- One photograph for an entry visa
The Immigration Department's Visa Requirements page lists "one (1) passport size photograph" among the documents for a single or multiple entry visa, with one application form per applicant.
- Online application
The department's home page says the entry visa process is now fully online. Applicants use its portal to apply and pay. The portal is behind a login, so its upload rules could not be read.
- Student visas need more
Student visa guidelines ask for two passport-sized photographs from minors and from adults applying for the first time, and one passport-sized photograph for a renewal. These applications go to the Immigration Department.
- Special entry permits
An application to vary the period or conditions of stay under the special entry permit rules asks for two recent passport-sized photographs for each applicant.
- Sources differ on the count
The Government of Barbados visa page says the application form should be completed in duplicate and accompanied by two passport-size photographs. The Immigration Department, which decides the visa, asks for one. Follow the instructions the portal gives you.
- No size is published
Barbados sets a maximum of 5 centimetres by 5 centimetres only for passport photographs. For visas, none of the department's pages gives dimensions, so no size can be quoted from an official source.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Apply and pay through the Immigration Department's online portal.
- Have a clear passport-size photograph ready as a digital file.
- Submit one application form per applicant.
- Prepare copies of the passport cover and biodata page.
- Read any upload message in the portal and replace the photo if it asks.
Don't
- Do not book travel before the visa has been granted.
- Do not assume the passport photo limit of 5 x 5 cm is a visa rule.
- Do not send your actual passport unless you want the visa endorsed in it.
- Do not rely on a size or file limit quoted by a photo service.
Glasses
Barbados publishes no rule on glasses for visa photographs. The Immigration Department asks only for a passport-size photograph and sets no requirements on eyewear, expression or lighting in the pages we could read.
Because the online portal sits behind a login, any photo checks it applies could not be seen. Use a clear, front-facing photograph in which your face is fully visible, and follow any message the portal shows when you upload.
Headwear and religious dress
No official page sets a rule on head coverings for Barbados visa photographs. The passport application form, which is a separate document, asks for photographs taken without a hat. The Immigration Department's visa pages are silent, so if you wear a head covering for religious or medical reasons, ask the department before you apply.
Babies and children
Minors need a photograph too. Barbados's student visa guidelines ask for two passport-sized photographs for an applicant under 18, together with a notarised birth certificate or a copy of it and a letter of consent from the parent signed by a notary public where applicable. Other visa categories name no separate child rule.
The entry visa form is one application per applicant, so each child travelling needs a separate application and photograph.
Printed and digital photos
The entry visa is now applied for online, so a digital photograph is what you need first. Barbados does not publish a pixel size, a file size or a format for it, and the portal could not be opened without a login, so no figure can be given. A digital photo can be cropped to a passport-size square or portrait, as the portal asks.
Printed photographs are still named on the paper-route pages: one for an entry visa, two for most student visas, two for special entry permits. If your mission or the Immigration Department asks for prints, a digital photo can be printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.
Where to submit the photo
Apply online through the Immigration Department's entry visa portal, which takes the application and the payment. The older Visa Requirements page describes sending documents and a banker's draft to the Chief Immigration Officer in Bridgetown, and says visa applications were accepted at Barbados missions in New York, Miami, Washington, Toronto, Ottawa, London, Brussels and Geneva.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that all travel visas are obtained through the Immigration Department at Bridgetown. If you are unsure whether a mission will take your application, ask it before you send documents. Single entry visas give permission for one entry within a three-month period, and multiple entry visas for numerous entries within six months.
