At a glance

The document covered for Panama is the passport. The Autoridad de Pasaportes de Panamá (APAP) takes the photograph at its office, so you bring none. Consulates abroad work with APAP and, depending on the post, ask for two or three white-background prints between 3.5 x 4.5 cm and 4 x 5 cm, or capture the photo themselves.

Overview

Passports are issued by the Autoridad de Pasaportes de Panamá (APAP). Inside the country you apply in person at one of its offices with a valid cédula, and the photo is taken there. Panamanians abroad apply at the consulate for their area, because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handles the request together with APAP, and the consulate sends the documents by courier to Panama.

This is where photo rules differ. Some consulates capture the picture, signature and fingerprints at the appointment, and others ask you to bring prints on a white background, in a size and number that vary from post to post. The passport is the only Panamanian document covered here, so for the exact print size, ask the consulate that handles your application.
