Lebanon work permit photo requirements
The photo rules set by Ministry of Labour for the Lebanon work permit, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What are the Lebanon work permit photo requirements?
Lebanon's Ministry of Labour publishes no size or background for work permit photos. Its first-time work permit form lists 2 photos among the documents for workers and domestic workers, and the renewal form lists a photo. General Security's guide for domestic workers repeats the two photos for the permit, then asks for three more for the residence permit that follows at a GS centre.
A foreign worker in Lebanon needs a work permit, the ijazat amal, from the Ministry of Labour, and separately a work residence from General Security (GS). For a domestic worker, GS sets out the order: the employer first gets a prior approval from the Ministry of Labour, then the work visa from GS, then the work permit at the ministry, and finally the residence at a GS regional centre. GS grants annual work residence only on a work permit valid for at least six months.
Photos enter at two points. The ministry's work permit application form lists, for workers and domestic workers, the basic work contract, the basic insurance policy, a copy of the passport (validity page, name page and entry visa), a laboratory test and two photos; for first-category permits, sponsor transfers and status settlements, an official adds further documents under the rules in force. The renewal form lists the contract, insurance, passport copy, residence copy, the old permit and a photo. After that, GS's residence lists ask for three photos.
Workers fall into four categories, the fourth being domestic workers, and the category also sets the GS residence fee. Renewals are filed at the ministry's labour department for the employer's address. The ministry gives no dimensions, background or file format for any of these photos.

Key requirements
- Two photos for a first permit
The application form for a first work permit lists two photos for workers and domestic workers, alongside the contract, insurance, passport copy and laboratory test.
- One photo to renew
The renewal form lists a photo with the contract, insurance policy, passport copy, residence copy and the previous permit. The ministry's answer on domestic worker renewals asks for two photos.
- Prior approval comes first
To bring a worker from abroad, the employer first files for initial and then prior approval, with a copy of the worker's passport valid for at least 18 months, the employer's identity and, for companies, commercial registration papers.
- Medical tests
A laboratory test is part of a first permit. A renewal needs no new medical test unless the worker travelled and returned, in which case a tuberculosis test with a chest X-ray from a government hospital is requested.
- Notarised contract and insurance
For a domestic worker, GS lists a work contract made before a notary and an insurance policy with an insurance company among the permit documents, together with two photos of the worker.
- Residence follows the permit
Once the permit is issued, the worker's annual residence at GS needs the permit and a certified copy, the work visa copy, the contract and three photos.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Prepare two photos for a first work permit
- Add a photo when you renew
- Start a domestic worker's renewal a month before the permit expires
- Keep the worker's passport valid for at least eight months at a domestic renewal
- Have the work contract made before a notary
- Keep three more photos ready for the GS residence
Don't
- Do not apply for the residence before the work permit is issued
- Do not let the permit lapse; after four months a clearance is needed
- Do not rely on an unofficial photo size; ask the labour department
- Do not skip the laboratory test on a first permit
Headwear and religious dress
The Ministry of Labour publishes no rules on head coverings, glasses or expression for work permit photos. Its forms simply list photos among the documents.
If you are unsure what the labour department will accept, ask it before printing. GS's detailed photo rules are written for Lebanese passports and do not mention work permits.
Printed and digital photos
The ministry's published forms work on paper: the photos are prints filed with the application at the labour department, together with copies of the passport and the other documents. The ministry also runs online services for companies and recruitment agencies, but publishes no photo specification for them.
With no size given, a standard passport-size print is a practical choice. A digital photo can be printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter and cut into separate photos.
Where to submit the photo
The employer files the work permit application with the Ministry of Labour. A domestic worker's renewal is filed at the labour department for the employer's address, and an agricultural worker's renewal at the department in the governorate where the employer lives, with the employer's identity copy, passport copies, residence copy, previous permit, a new contract and new insurance.
For Syrian workers, GS stopped accepting temporary residence based on a work undertaking for companies and other legal persons, and asks employers to apply directly to the Ministry of Labour for a work permit; its regularisation of Syrian workers' status runs until 29 January 2027.
