Oman work visa photo requirements
The 40 × 60 mm photo rules set by Royal Oman Police for the Oman work visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Oman work visa photo?
An Oman work (employment) visa is requested by the employer, not the worker. After the Ministry of Labour issues the work permit, the employer applies to the Royal Oman Police with a copy of the passport, a personal photo, the permit and the medical examination. The ROP work visa page asks for two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm (40 x 60 mm); no background colour is published.
A work visa lets a foreigner enter Oman to take up a job. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) grants it at the employer's request and under the employer's responsibility, on the basis of a licence from the Ministry of Labour unless the employer is a government entity. The worker must be at least 21, and the gender and profession on the visa application must match the work permit. The ROP page says the visa is valid for two years from the date it is stamped in the passport and allows multiple entries.
The process has two stages. The employer first applies to the Ministry of Labour for a work permit through its e-services portal or a Sanad office, pays the fee and prints the initial approval. The employer then goes to the ROP to complete the visa, using the electronic form on the ROP website, signed by the employer or an authorised signatory and typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for everyone else.

Key requirements
- Two photos of 4 x 6 cm
The ROP's Arabic work visa page lists two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm with the application. Its English page writes the same requirement as "Two photographs ( 6X4 ) cm".
- The employer applies
The visa is requested by the employer or an authorised signatory through the electronic form on the ROP website. The worker does not apply alone.
- Work permit first
The Ministry of Labour must issue the work permit before the ROP grants the visa, except when the employer is a government entity. The profession and gender on the visa must match the permit.
- Minimum age 21
The ROP does not issue a work visa to anyone younger than 21.
- Medical examination
gov.om lists a copy of the medical examination. The ROP page asks nationals of India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Syria and Nepal for a medical examination card approved by the Ministry of Health.
- Temporary and contracting visas
The temporary work visa (4, 6 or 9 months) and the employment contracting visa (two months, for workers who must first pass tests set by a government body) also list two 4 x 6 cm photos on the ROP site. gov.om asks for a digital photo for the temporary visa.
- Renewal also needs a photo
To renew a work visa, the employer submits a copy of the passport, a personal photo, a medical examination and the Ministry of Labour renewal form, and the worker must be in Oman.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Give your employer two 4 x 6 cm photos, or a digital photo if it asks for one
- Check that the profession on the visa matches the work permit
- Complete the medical examination before the visa is requested
- Keep your passport valid for at least six months
Don't
- Do not apply for the work visa yourself; the employer must
- Do not expect a work visa before the age of 21
- Do not let the visa lapse: the ROP fines late renewals

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Headwear and religious dress
The ROP work visa page, the gov.om service card and the Ministry of Labour permit service say nothing about head coverings, glasses or facial expression in the photo. If you are unsure, ask the employer who submits the application to check with the ROP.
Printed and digital photos
The ROP's work visa page asks for two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm to go with the electronic form. The gov.om service card for the same visa lists a "personal photo", and the card for the temporary work visa lists a "digital personal photo", which the employer supplies with the online application. No pixel or file limits are published.
Give your employer the form it asks for. Prints can be made on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter and trimmed to 4 x 6 cm.
Where to submit the photo
Work permit: the employer applies to the Ministry of Labour through its e-services portal or at a Sanad office. Visa: the employer then applies to the ROP, which issues the visa; the ROP eVisa portal has a separate route for sponsors and accredited PROs.
After arrival, the worker takes the Ministry of Health medical fitness examination and applies for a resident card at a ROP civil status office.
