Andorra passport photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Govern d'Andorra, Ministry of Justice and Interior for the Andorra passport, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Andorra passport photo?
Most Andorran passport applicants bring no photo: it is taken in a special booth at a Servei de Tràmits office during the same visit. Children under six, and applicants whose physical impediment rules out the booth (duly justified), attach one colour photo of 35 x 45 mm taken in the previous six months, on a monochrome light background, with no glasses and nothing on the head.
The Government of Andorra publishes the passport rules on a page of the Ministry of Justice and Interior, and applications are made in person at the offices of the Servei de Tràmits, the government's service counters. For a minor or a person with a disability, the legal representative can go instead. Since 15 December 2022 the office has issued a third-generation biometric passport with Supplemental Access Control, and every renewal now uses it. Older passports stay valid until their own expiry date.
The photograph is part of the visit. You have it taken in a special photo booth installed at the Tràmits offices, at the same moment you hand in the application. You also sign in front of the clerk, and your fingerprints are taken unless you are under 12 or have a physical impediment that prevents it. The booth is the normal route, so the specification below matters only to the two groups who are sent elsewhere for their picture.
Those two groups are children under six and people with a physical impediment that makes the booth impossible, provided it is duly justified. They attach their own photograph to the application. The government page sets conditions for it: size, colour, background, pose and recency. It publishes no head height, eye line, pixel size or file format, so none is given here. Andorrans who live abroad should note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Andorran missions help nationals abroad renew official documents, but no government page checked for this guide describes how the photo is taken at an embassy. Ask the embassy before paying for prints.

Key requirements
- The booth takes your photo
Applicants have the picture taken in the special photo booth at the Tràmits office, at the same moment as the application is submitted. No photo needs to be brought for this route.
- Under six, or a justified impediment: attach a photo
Children under six, and people whose physical impediment makes the booth impossible, must attach a photograph to the application. The impediment has to be duly justified.
- 35 x 45 mm, made conventionally
An attached photo measures 35 x 45 mm and is produced using conventional photographic techniques. It must have been taken in the six months before the date the application is submitted.
- Colour on a plain light background
The attached picture is taken in colour, against a monochrome background of a light colour. The page names no shade, so choose a uniform, clearly light backdrop.
- Facing forward, neutral face
In the attached photo the person faces the camera directly, with a neutral expression and the mouth closed. The eyes are open and no hair hides them.
- Glasses come off
For the attached photo, anyone who wears glasses must take them off so the eyes can be seen in full. The page lists no exception for clear, tinted or medical lenses.
- Nothing on the head, nothing over the face
No attached photograph is accepted if the person has a hairstyle or facial adornment that partly hides the face, or any accessory on the head.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Have the photo taken in the booth when you apply at a Tràmits office.
- Attach your own photo only if your child is under six or a justified impediment rules out the booth.
- Use an attached photo taken within the last six months.
- Keep an attached photo to 35 x 45 mm.
- Face the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and eyes open.
- Take your glasses off so both eyes show in full.
- Keep hair clear of the eyes and the face.
- Ask the embassy how the photo is handled before applying from abroad.
Don't
- Do not wear glasses in the photo.
- Do not wear a hat, headband or any other accessory on the head.
- Do not let a hairstyle or facial adornment partly hide the face.
- Do not smile broadly, open your mouth or close your eyes.
- Do not use a photo taken more than six months before you apply.
- Do not assume a home-made photo replaces the booth if you are six or older and able to use it.
Sample photos
How a Andorra passport photo should look, and the mistakes that most often get photos rejected. Each example is drawn to this document's 35 × 45 mm and background colour.
Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Glasses
If the person wears glasses, they must take them off so that the eyes can be seen in full. That is the whole rule on the government page. It mentions no exception for medical reasons, tinted lenses or clear lenses, so remove them for the attached photo.
The page lists this rule among the conditions for the attached photograph and does not repeat it for the booth. Taking your glasses off before you step in costs nothing and keeps both eyes in view.
Headwear and religious dress
For the attached photo, no photograph is accepted showing the person with a hairstyle or facial adornment that partly hides the face, or with any accessory on the head. The page lists no religious or medical exception, so do not assume one. Hair must also stay clear of the eyes, which have to be open and visible.
If you wear a head covering for religious or medical reasons, ask the Servei de Tràmits how your case is handled before you go.
Babies and children
Children get their own passport, regardless of age, and the legal representative can submit the application for a minor. Those under six are not photographed in the booth. Instead, the application is accompanied by a photograph taken in the six months before it is submitted.
That photograph follows the same conditions as any other attached photo: 35 x 45 mm, colour, a monochrome light background, the child facing the camera with the mouth closed and the eyes open and visible. A child of six or over goes into the booth like an adult. Fingerprints are not taken from anyone under 12.
Printed and digital photos
The government page asks for a photograph produced with conventional photographic techniques and mentions one picture. It publishes no file format, pixel size or upload portal for the passport photo. A digital picture cropped to 35 x 45 mm can be printed at a photo counter.
For almost everyone the question never arises: the booth captures the image digitally, and the page does not say what the office does with it afterwards.
Where to submit the photo
Apply in person at a Servei de Tràmits office in Andorra. The applicant appears personally, or the legal representative does so for a minor or a disabled person. During the visit you have the photo taken, sign in the box on the application in front of the clerk, give fingerprints if required, complete the form with the documents that apply to your nationality category, and pay the fee.
A passport can be renewed from six months before its expiry date, and earlier if it is lost, stolen, badly damaged or has no visa pages left. Renewal is requested on the same terms as a first application and needs one photograph and the old passport. After a loss or theft, report it to the Police Department first, then ask the Servei de Tràmits for a duplicate. If it happens abroad, contact the Andorran embassy there, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if there is none.
