Armenia visa photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Armenia for the Armenia visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Armenia visa photo?
For a visa from an Armenian embassy or consulate, attach one passport-size colour photo, 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm), to the application form. The foreign ministry's form marks its photo box as not required when applying at the border, so a visa issued at a border crossing needs no picture. No background colour or head size is published. Extending a visitor visa in Yerevan needs a colour photo as well.
Foreigners who are not visa-exempt need an entry visa for Armenia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says visas are issued for a maximum of 120 days with the possibility to extend them for another 60, and that nationals of countries on its invitation-only list can obtain a visa only upon invitation and only at an Armenian diplomatic mission. Travellers from other countries may also get a visa at a border crossing point, or apply online through the separate e-visa system, which has its own page.
A mission application uses the bilingual Armenian and English form that the ministry publishes on its visa page. Its photo box sits in the top right corner, with the words "Not required when applying at the border" beneath it. The checklists of the missions ask for the picture: the embassy in India lists the visa application with a photo of 3,5x4.5cm, the ministry's page for Oman asks for one passport sized colour photograph, and Hartak, the national services gateway, names 1 color photograph of 35x45 mm.
After arrival, the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs handles extensions of visitor visas at its office in Yerevan. That application again asks for a colour photo.

Key requirements
- One colour photo per application
The mission checklists ask for a single picture: "one passport sized colour photograph" on the page for Oman, "1 color photograph" of 35x45 mm on Hartak, and "Visa Application" with "Photo (3,5x4.5cm)" at the embassy in India.
- No photo at the border
The ministry's visa application form carries the note "Not required when applying at the border" under its photo box, in Armenian and in English. Travellers who get their visa at a border crossing point therefore fill in the form without a picture.
- Border visas are limited
The ministry's page for Oman says visa services at border crossing points issue single-entry 3 day transit visas and 120 day visitor visas only, and refuse nationals of countries on the invitation-only list. Those travellers must apply at a mission, with the photo.
- Extensions need a colour photo
To extend a visa in Armenia, the Hartak page of the Migration and Citizenship Service lists a passport, a 3,5 x 4,5 colour photo and the state fee receipt. The page prints the unit as millimetres, which can only mean the usual 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
- Apply for an extension before expiry
A foreign national or an authorised representative applies in person, without an online appointment, at 14 Tairov Street in Yerevan, before the visa runs out, with an extension form stating the reason for the longer stay.
- Official and diplomatic passports
The foreign ministry issues and extends official and diplomatic visas. For Indian official passport holders the embassy in India asks for a note verbale, the passport with a photocopy, and a visa application form with a passport-size colored photo.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Attach one 35 x 45 mm colour photo to an embassy or consulate application
- Download the current application form from the foreign ministry's visa page
- Check whether your nationality can get a visa at the border or online instead
- Keep a spare colour print in case you need to extend the visa in Yerevan
- Apply for an extension in person before the visa expires
Don't
- Do not leave the photo box empty on a mission application
- Do not count on a border visa if your country is on the invitation-only list
- Do not assume a background colour: none is published
- Do not use these print rules for the e-visa, which takes an uploaded image
- Do not wait until the visa has run out to ask for more time

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Babies and children
For a minor, the national services gateway asks for the passport of a parent or guardian and proof of the relationship, as well as the child's own documents, and charges no state fee for people under 18. It gives no separate photo rule for children; the same 35 x 45 mm colour photo is on the list for every applicant.
Printed and digital photos
A visa from a mission is a paper procedure, so the photo is a print that goes with the form. The pages read give no pixel size, file format or upload step for this route. The ministry's page for Oman notes that residents of the US, Canada and Europe may apply by mail, paying for the return shipment, which again means sending a physical photo.
A photo taken at home can be cropped to 35 x 45 mm, laid out on a 4x6 inch sheet and printed at a photo counter. Nothing about the photo is needed for a visa obtained at the border.
Where to submit the photo
Book an appointment in advance at the Armenian embassy or consulate that serves your country, then visit it with the form, passport, photo and fee receipt. Hartak says that if your country has no Armenian mission, you can apply at one in another country. Invited travellers must first have their host submit the invitation in Armenia.
Inside Armenia, extensions of visitor visas are dealt with by the Migration and Citizenship Service at 14 Tairov Street in Yerevan, in person only. The ministry says Armenian visas can be extended for up to another 60 days.
