Bangladesh driving licence photo requirements
The photo rules set by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority for the Bangladesh driving licence, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What are the Bangladesh driving licence photo requirements?
For a Bangladesh driving licence you upload your photo to the BRTA Service Portal (BSP) with the learner licence application. The portal's note reads maximum 150 KB (300 x 300 pixels), a square image. BRTA publishes no print size or background colour for it. You then give biometric data in person on the test day, and for renewals BRTA records a digital photo, digital signature and fingerprints at the circle office.
Driving licences in Bangladesh are issued by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), and the smart card licence is delivered by post. Every driver starts with a learner licence, applied for online on the BRTA Service Portal from a user account created with your National ID (NID). One account can be used only for the licence applications of that NID holder. You must be at least 18 for a non-professional licence and 21 for a professional one, and have passed class 8.
The online application asks for the applicant's photo, at most 150 KB, plus scans of a medical certificate from a registered doctor, the NID, a utility bill and an educational certificate, each at most 600 KB. The portal's citizen manual shows the photo box on the learner licence form with the note: Photo Size Maximum 150 KB (300 x 300 pixels).
On the test day you attend the test centre in person with the learner licence and the listed documents, and give biometric data. You are allowed to sit the driving test only once your fingerprints have been verified against the NID server. After passing, you pay online and print a temporary authorisation slip from your account, which you laminate and carry until the smart card arrives.

Key requirements
- Upload with the learner application
The photo goes on the learner licence application in the BRTA Service Portal. BRTA's process page lists the applicant's photo, maximum 150 KB, as the first required document.
- 300 x 300 pixels, square
The form note in BRTA's citizen manual says Photo Size Maximum 150 KB (300 x 300 pixels). Crop the photo to a square around your head and shoulders and resize it before uploading.
- Other files up to 600 KB
The medical certificate from a registered doctor, the NID scan, the utility bill and the educational certificate are each limited to 600 KB. Professional licence applicants must also upload a dope test report later in the process.
- Biometrics in person
On the test day you attend the test centre and give biometric data, and your fingerprints are verified against the NID server before the test. For a renewal, BRTA takes the digital photo, digital signature and fingerprints at the circle office.
- Paper forms still list prints
BRTA's paper learner form (Form-1, rule 6(2)) has a box for three stamp-size colour photos, and its renewal page lists one newly taken passport-size and one stamp-size photo. Neither gives a size in millimetres.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Create the BSP account with your own NID.
- Crop your photo square and resize it to 300 x 300 pixels.
- Keep the photo file at 150 KB or less.
- Scan the medical certificate and other documents under 600 KB each.
- Bring the learner licence and documents to the test centre in person.
Don't
- Do not upload a photo larger than 150 KB.
- Do not use someone else's NID account for your application.
- Do not try to pay at a bank counter; fees are paid online.
- Do not drive on the temporary slip without printing and laminating it.
Babies and children
There is no driving licence for children. BRTA sets the minimum age at 18 for a non-professional licence and 21 for a professional one, and a learner licence is the first step for everyone. The paper learner form repeats the same ages.
The BRTA Service Portal account itself is created with a National ID, and one account serves only that NID holder.
Printed and digital photos
The main route is digital: one square photo of 300 x 300 pixels, no more than 150 KB, uploaded to the BRTA Service Portal. BRTA does not publish a print size or a pixel range beyond that note, and the 35 x 45 mm print often quoted for this licence is not a BRTA size.
Prints appear only on BRTA's paper forms. The learner licence Form-1 has a box for stamp-size colour photos (3 copies), and the renewal page, last updated in May 2023, lists one newly taken passport-size photo and one stamp-size photo. A digital photo can be resized for the upload and also printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter if a circle office asks for prints.
Where to submit the photo
Apply for the learner licence on the BRTA Service Portal. Your user profile must include your division, district and thana, because the thana decides which BRTA circle office handles the smart card licence. Fees for the learner licence and the smart card are paid online; BRTA says there is no option to pay at a bank counter.
After the learner period, attend the driving competency test at the scheduled centre. Renewals are made at the relevant BRTA circle office, where biometrics are captured again.

Bangladesh driving licence photo FAQ
A digital photo of 300 x 300 pixels, which is square, uploaded to the BRTA Service Portal with the learner licence application. The form note in BRTA's citizen manual sets a maximum of 150 KB. BRTA does not publish a print size for online applications.
The photo may be at most 150 KB. The other attachments, such as the medical certificate, NID scan, utility bill and educational certificate, may each be up to 600 KB. Compress the photo rather than shrinking it below 300 x 300 pixels.
You give biometric data in person on the driving test day, and your fingerprints are checked against the NID server. For renewals, BRTA's page says the digital photo, digital signature and fingerprints are taken at the circle office.
Not for the online learner application, which takes an uploaded photo. BRTA's paper learner form has a box for three stamp-size colour photos, and its renewal page lists one passport-size and one stamp-size photo, so keep prints for paper processes only.
BRTA does not publish a background colour for the upload. A plain, light background and even lighting keep the face clear at 300 x 300 pixels. Make sure your face is centred after cropping the photo square.
At least 18 for a non-professional licence and 21 for a professional licence, according to BRTA. Applicants also need a minimum education of class 8 and must be physically and mentally fit, with a medical certificate from a registered doctor.
