Bangladesh eVisa photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Embassy of Bangladesh, Washington DC for the Bangladesh eVisa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Bangladesh eVisa photo?
Bangladesh has not introduced an e-visa, so no visa is issued online. Two official online forms come close. The DIP's Online MRV Portal takes an optional 45mm x 35mm photo (35 x 45 mm portrait) as a JPEG of up to 300 KB, and you print the form for the mission. The Special Branch visa-on-arrival portal asks for a recently taken, clear, full-frontal face image in JPEG, JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB.
Searches for a Bangladesh e-visa lead to many unofficial sites, but the government does not issue one. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington states plainly that an e-visa has not yet been introduced by the Government of Bangladesh. Visas are still Machine Readable Visas (MRV) placed in the passport by a Bangladesh mission, or visas on arrival granted by the immigration officer at the port of entry.
What you can do online is apply. The Bangladesh Online MRV Portal of the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) hosts the visa form for new visas, extensions, No Visa Required endorsements and visas on arrival. You fill it in in English, print it, and take it with your documents and fee to the nearest visa office or Bangladesh mission; the portal does not take payments. Saved drafts are deleted after 7 days, and a submitted form is valid for 7 days.
Travellers who qualify for a visa on arrival use a second system, the application portal for the on-arrival and transit visa run by the Special Branch of Bangladesh Police. You register, fill in your travel details, take or upload a face photo and the passport bio-page, submit at least 72 hours before arrival and print the acknowledgement receipt for the airport.

Key requirements
- No e-visa exists yet
The Washington embassy's visa page says the Government of Bangladesh has not yet introduced an e-visa. Any site offering a Bangladesh e-visa for a fee is not the government. The visa itself is either an MRV sticker from a mission or a visa granted on arrival.
- MRV portal photo is optional
The portal lists a 45mm x 35mm digital photo in JPEG format, maximum 300 KB, and adds that the photo is optional. DIP's form instructions ask for a colour print with a white background glued to the printed form, which you hand in at the mission.
- Visa-on-arrival face image
The Special Branch portal asks you to take or upload a recently taken, full-frontal, clear image of your face as a JPEG, JPG or PNG file of up to 5 MB. It sets no pixel size or background colour.
- Apply 72 hours ahead
The visa-on-arrival portal says applications must be submitted at least 72 hours in advance. Print the acknowledgement receipt, which you show at the VOA queue at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after paying the fee at the bank counter.
- Only some travellers qualify
Visa on arrival is limited: for example, travellers from countries without a Bangladesh embassy, investors and business visitors with documents from the relevant authorities, and certain nationalities arriving from a country with no resident Bangladesh mission. The immigration officer grants it after checking your documents, for a maximum of 30 days, single entry.
- The online MRV form expires
A submitted MRV form is valid for 7 days, and an unfinished one is deleted after 7 days. Submit and take the printout to the mission within that time, or fill in a new form.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Use the government portals, not paid e-visa sites.
- Keep the MRV upload under 300 KB as a JPEG.
- Use a clear, recent, full-frontal photo for the visa-on-arrival portal.
- Submit a visa-on-arrival application at least 72 hours before landing.
- Print the acknowledgement receipt and carry it to the airport.
Don't
- Do not expect an e-visa by email; none is issued.
- Do not upload a visa-on-arrival photo over 5 MB.
- Do not let a saved MRV form go past 7 days.
- Do not rely on visa on arrival if your nationality or purpose is not eligible.
Sample photos

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Babies and children
Each traveller, child or adult, needs their own application on either portal. The Special Branch information page lists spouses and children of foreign citizens of Bangladeshi origin among the categories eligible for a visa on arrival, in a list it introduces for people from European countries; at the port of entry they must prove Bangladeshi origin, for example with citizenship certificates or current or expired Bangladesh passports.
Families of Bangladeshi origin can also consider the No Visa Required endorsement, which the MRV portal lists among its application types.
Printed and digital photos
Neither portal produces an electronic visa. With the MRV portal, the digital photo is an optional extra and the printed form still carries a 35 x 45 mm colour print on white, so plan for prints and, if you like, a JPEG copy under 300 KB. A digital photo can be cropped to 35 x 45 mm and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.
With the visa-on-arrival portal, the photo is digital only: a JPEG, JPG or PNG up to 5 MB, taken in the portal or uploaded. What you print is the acknowledgement receipt from your application or from the approval e-mail.
Where to submit the photo
MRV portal: after submitting, take the printed form with the required documents and fee to the nearest visa office or Bangladesh mission. Each mission sets its own receiving hours and whether it needs an appointment.
Visa-on-arrival portal: after approval, fly to Dhaka, pay the visa fee in cash at the Sonali Bank counter in the Visa on Arrival area, then join the VOA queue with the printed acknowledgement receipt. To stay longer, the extension is handled by the DIP office in Agargaon, Dhaka.
How to get your Bangladesh eVisa photo
- Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Bangladesh eVisa: 35 × 45 mm print, mRV form: white background. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
- Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: no e-visa exists yet; mRV portal photo is optional; visa-on-arrival face image; apply 72 hours ahead.
- Prepare a print or digital file. Neither portal produces an electronic visa. With the MRV portal, the digital photo is an optional extra and the printed form still carries a 35 x 45 mm colour print on white, so plan for prints and, if you like, a JPEG copy under 300 KB.
- Submit the photo with your application. MRV portal: after submitting, take the printed form with the required documents and fee to the nearest visa office or Bangladesh mission. Each mission sets its own receiving hours and whether it needs an appointment.
Bangladesh eVisa photo FAQ
No. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington states that an e-visa has not yet been introduced by the Government of Bangladesh. You can fill in the visa form online on DIP's Online MRV Portal, or pre-apply online for a visa on arrival, but the visa itself is issued by a mission or at the port of entry.
The Online MRV Portal accepts a 45mm x 35mm digital photo in JPEG format, maximum 300 KB, and marks it optional. DIP's instructions for the printed form ask for a colour photo with a white background glued at the top left corner.
The Special Branch portal asks for a recently taken, full-frontal, clear image of the applicant's face in JPEG, JPG or PNG format, up to 5 MB. It does not publish a pixel size or background colour, so a well-lit, plain-background passport-style photo is the safe choice.
Yes, the portal offers a "Take Photo/Upload" step for the face image, so you can capture it on the device or upload a file. Make sure the face is clear and fully frontal, and that the file stays within 5 MB.
For an MRV visa, yes: the printed form carries a glued colour photo, and missions ask for one to three copies. For a visa on arrival, the photo is uploaded and the document you print is the acknowledgement receipt.
The Special Branch portal says the application must be submitted at least 72 hours before arrival. Approval is not the visa itself: the immigration officer at the port of entry grants it after checking your documents and the fee receipt.
