Bangladesh visa photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Department of Immigration and Passports for the Bangladesh visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Bangladesh visa photo?
A Bangladesh visa photo is a colour photo 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in) on a white background, glued to the top left corner of the printed Machine Readable Visa (MRV) form. DIP writes the size height first, as 45mm x 35mm. Missions ask for one to three recent copies: Dubai says no older than 6 months, and Kuala Lumpur wants blue for some visa types. Adding a JPEG of up to 300 KB to the online form is optional.
Foreign nationals get a Bangladesh visa from a Bangladesh embassy, high commission or consulate, or in limited cases on arrival at Dhaka airport. The application itself belongs to the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP): you complete the Machine Readable Visa (MRV) form in English on the Bangladesh Online MRV Portal, print it with its barcode, sign it and hand it in with your passport, the fee and the papers your visa category needs. The Berlin embassy will not accept a downloaded form filled in by hand or on a computer.
DIP's general instructions for the MRV form ask you to attach a colour photograph of 45mm x 35mm, with a white background, glued at the top left corner of the form. The photo box on DIP Form-4 is 35 mm wide, so this is the familiar 35 x 45 mm portrait photo. The portal also lets you add the picture as a JPEG of up to 300 KB, but marks that upload optional.
Missions decide how many prints they want. London and Dubai ask for two colour copies with a white background, and Dubai adds that they must not be older than 6 months. Berlin asks for one. Kuala Lumpur asks for three copies with a blue background for tourist, business and family visas, and asks you to upload your photo on the online form as well.

Key requirements
- 35 x 45 mm, in colour
DIP's MRV instructions call for a colour photograph measuring 45mm x 35mm, height first. DIP Form-4 prints the same size in its photo box, which is 35 mm wide.
- White background
DIP says the photograph has to have a white background, and London and Dubai repeat it. Kuala Lumpur is the exception we found: its lists for tourist, business and family visas ask for a blue background.
- Glued to the printed form
The print goes on the top left corner of the MRV form, fixed with glue. The form must be the one generated by the online portal: Berlin wants one copy of the completed online form with its barcode and refuses pre-downloaded forms.
- Copies vary by mission
Berlin asks for one recent passport-size photograph, London and Dubai for two with a white background, and Kuala Lumpur for three. Check the visa page of the mission that covers where you live.
- Upload is optional
The Bangladesh Online MRV Portal lists a 45mm x 35mm digital photo in JPEG format with a maximum size of 300 KB among the things to have ready, and notes that the photo is optional. Kuala Lumpur nevertheless asks applicants to upload it.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Complete the MRV form online and print it with the barcode.
- Glue one colour photo to the top left corner of the form.
- Use a plain white background unless your mission says otherwise.
- Check how many copies your mission wants.
- Sign the printed form before you submit it.
- Keep any uploaded JPEG under 300 KB.
Don't
- Do not use a black and white photo.
- Do not fill in a downloaded form by hand for Berlin.
- Do not use a photo older than 6 months in Dubai.
- Do not book flights before the visa is issued.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Babies and children
Children apply with their own passport and their own MRV form and photo. Many children of Bangladeshi origin do not need a visa at all: foreign nationals of Bangladeshi origin, their foreign spouses and their children can get a No Visa Required (NVR) endorsement in their foreign passport, which the Washington embassy says allows multiple entries for the validity of the passport. Paris includes second and third generations.
NVR has its own application form. The Berlin embassy's former website asked for two 37 x 37 mm photographs with an NVR application; check the current NVR page of your mission before printing.
Printed and digital photos
The print is what the mission checks: a colour 35 x 45 mm photo glued to the printed form. A digital copy matters only if you add one on the online form, where it is optional, JPEG and up to 300 KB. A digital photo can be cropped to 35 x 45 mm and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.
The square 37 x 37 mm size listed for this document came from the Berlin embassy's former website, which asked for one photo of that size with a visa application and two with an NVR application. Its current visa page, updated in September 2026, asks only for one recent passport-size photograph and gives no size, so follow DIP's 35 x 45 mm.
Where to submit the photo
Submit at the mission that covers where you live. Berlin accepts the printed form, photo, original passport and proof of a bank transfer by post or in person. London takes applications by appointment, or by post with a prepaid return envelope. Washington accepts walk-in and mailed applications, Paris takes walk-ins without an appointment, and Dubai receives visa applications only through its service centre, Foshwa Global, by appointment.
Washington and Dubai say they issue new visas only. An extension is handled by DIP in Dhaka, with a letter from your local sponsor and a police clearance certificate, according to the Washington embassy.

Bangladesh visa photo FAQ
A colour print 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in), which DIP writes height first as 45mm x 35mm. It needs a white background and is glued to the top left corner of the printed MRV application form. Some missions also say how many copies to bring.
The Bangladesh Online MRV Portal marks the photo as optional. If you add one, it should be a 45mm x 35mm JPEG of up to 300 KB. You still need printed photos for the mission, and Kuala Lumpur asks applicants to upload the photo as well.
It depends on the mission. Berlin asks for one recent passport-size photograph, London and Dubai for two colour copies with a white background, and Kuala Lumpur for three copies for tourist, business and family visas. One of them is glued to the form.
DIP's MRV instructions say the photograph has to have a white background, and the London and Dubai missions say the same. The High Commission in Kuala Lumpur lists a blue background for tourist, business and family visa applications, so follow your mission if it states a colour.
Its former website asked for 37 x 37 mm. The current visa page on the embassy's government website, updated in September 2026, asks for one recent passport-size photograph without a size. DIP's instructions for the MRV form give 45mm x 35mm, the 35 x 45 mm portrait size.
Possibly not. Foreign nationals of Bangladeshi origin, their spouses and children can apply for a No Visa Required endorsement instead of a visa. NVR uses its own form and photo rules, so read the NVR page of your mission before printing photos.
