At a glance

People in French Polynesia hold the French passport, with a photo of 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in) on a light background. Applications go through the equipped town halls of Tahiti and other islands, or a mobile station on remote islands, under the High Commission of the Republic.

Overview

French Polynesia is an overseas territory of France whose residents hold the same biometric French passport as people in mainland France. The Ministry of the Interior sets the national photo norm, while the High Commission of the Republic in Papeete organises applications locally and publishes its own information sheet, with its own summary of the photo rules.

Since 1 July 2019, passport applications are taken only at equipped town halls, which also hand the passport over, and a mobile station visits islands without equipment. The photo must be under six months old. The local sheet and the national guidance differ slightly on the background and on jewellery, which the document page explains.
