Haiti passport photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Direction de l'Immigration et de l'Émigration (DIE), Haiti for the Haiti passport, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Haiti passport photo?
The Direction de l'Immigration et de l'Émigration (DIE) asks for two colour photos on a white background with a Haitian passport application. It names the passport format 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in) in its entries for single adult women and gives no size in the others. It publishes no head size, recency, glasses or headwear rule, so 35 x 45 mm is the only measurement to work from.
The DIE describes the Haitian passport as a document issued by the Haitian government. Its information page tells applicants to present themselves at the immigration and emigration service, and gives the address as 171 Avenue John Brown Lalue in Port-au-Prince. The DIE website also lists two official online platforms for passport requests, Pass Web App and DELIDOC, which it says cover new applications, renewals, appointments and tracking.
The photo requirement is short. On the DIE checklist, each applicant status ends with the same line: two colour photos on a white background. Only two entries add a size, "passport format 35mm x 45mm": a single adult woman of Haitian origin and a single adult woman who has been naturalised. The entries for men, married women, children aged 1 to 17 and lost passports name no size.
Nothing on the DIE pages sets a head size, an eye position, a limit on how old the photo may be, or rules on glasses, headwear or expression, and the pages carry no update date, only a 2025 copyright line. This page therefore reports what is stated and leaves the rest open. If the exact size matters to you, ask the DIE or your Haitian consulate before you print.

Key requirements
- Two colour photos
Every status on the DIE checklist asks for two photos, and the DIE words them as colour photos. The same count appears for adults, for children aged 1 to 17 and for a lost passport. Black and white prints are therefore not what the DIE describes.
- White background
The DIE writes "fond blanc" in every photo line, for adults and children alike. It does not define the shade, the lighting or shadows, so a plain white wall or sheet with even light is the safe reading of the rule.
- The 35 x 45 mm format
The DIE gives "format passeport 35mm x 45mm" for a single adult woman of Haitian origin and for a naturalised single adult woman. For every other status it states no size at all. It is the only measurement the DIE publishes, and it is the one to prepare unless the office tells you otherwise.
- Children use the same line
The DIE's page for minors lists two colour photos on a white background for a child aged 1 to 17, with no size and no separate rule for babies or toddlers. The rest of the file differs from an adult's, since it includes a notarised parental authorisation.
- The Chicago consulate asks the same
The Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago lists "Two (2) colored passport pictures, on white background" among the documents for a ten-year passport, for in-person and online applications alike. Like the DIE, it names no size.
- Fingerprints are separate
Photos and fingerprints are different steps. The DIE marks fingerprints as compulsory ("Empreintes obligatoires") for a lost passport. The Chicago consulate asks for a fingerprint card in a sealed envelope, but says that people who apply in person do not bring one because the fingerprints are taken on site.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Bring two photos, printed in colour.
- Use a plain white background.
- Print at 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in), the only size the DIE names.
- Keep your eyes clearly visible and your face evenly lit.
- Check the DIE or your consulate for any update before printing.
- Apply with the supporting documents listed for your status.
Don't
- Do not use black and white prints.
- Do not use a coloured, patterned or shadowed background.
- Do not bring a single photo; the checklist asks for two.
- Do not assume a rule that the DIE has not published, such as a head size.
- Do not skip the fingerprint step if you are replacing a lost passport.
Sample photos
How a Haiti passport photo should look, and the mistakes that most often get photos rejected. Each example is drawn to this document's 35 × 45 mm and background colour.
Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Glasses
The DIE and consulate pages say nothing about glasses. With no published rule, the sensible approach is a photo in which your eyes are clearly visible and the lenses do not reflect light. If you need to keep your glasses on, ask the DIE or your consulate first.
Headwear and religious dress
No rule on headwear appears on the DIE or consulate pages read for this guide. A head covering worn for religious or medical reasons is something to raise with the DIE or your consulate before the photos are taken, so that you do not have to print them twice.
Babies and children
The DIE has a separate page for a minor's passport, covering children from 1 to 17 years old. It asks for two colour photos on a white background, a birth-record extract, a notarised parental authorisation, a contribution notice in the names of the father and mother, and the identity card of the father or mother. When a parent cannot attend, it asks for a mandate, and a family-council record when both parents have died.
No separate photo size is stated for children, and no rule for infants. The Chicago consulate adds that, for a minor, a parent or legal guardian signs an authorisation form before a notary public and supplies a notarised copy of their own passport, and that a minor's passport there is renewed for five years.
Printed and digital photos
The DIE lists the photos as papers to bring, so they are printed. No pixel size or file format is published for them. Because DELIDOC and Pass Web App are online platforms, the online form may ask for a digital image, but the pages read for this guide do not say what it must look like. A digital portrait can be cropped to 35 x 45 mm and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter, then cut into separate prints.
Where to submit the photo
In Haiti, take the photos and documents to the DIE in Port-au-Prince, or start an online request on the platforms the DIE names. The DIE builds a different list of documents for each applicant status, from a single Haitian-born woman to a naturalised man, a child, or someone replacing a lost passport, so read the entry that fits you.
Abroad, the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago accepts a ten-year passport application in person or online, and says an adult does not need to attend in person to renew. The consulates that publish their own requirements may differ in the details, so check the mission that serves your area.

Yes. The DIE asks for "photos en couleur", and the Chicago consulate asks for "colored" passport pictures. Neither page mentions black and white prints.
