Photo sizes and rules for 2 documents issued in Turkmenistan, taken from the issuing authorities and linked to their official pages.
At a glance
The Turkmen biometric passport photo is recorded electronically by the State Migration Service when it accepts your application, so no print size is published. Visa applicants hand prints to a Turkmen embassy: 3 x 4 cm (30 x 40 mm) in Vienna, Ankara and Bucharest, plus a 5 x 6 cm (50 x 60 mm) colour photo on Ankara's personal data sheet. Other embassies ask for a recent passport-size photo glued to the form.
Overview
Both documents run through the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, but the photo reaches it in different ways. Citizens enrol in person for the biometric passport, which is now issued only in Turkmenistan: the Law on Migration counts the application as accepted on the day the electronic photo and biometric data are taken, and the Berlin embassy confirms that embassies no longer issue new passports.
Foreigners need a letter of invitation from the Service and then a visa from a Turkmen embassy or at the border. The embassies collect printed photos with the paper form, mostly 3 x 4 cm, and each publishes its own checklist. The Service has also begun introducing electronic visas through an online portal.
