At a glance
Kyrgyz citizens applying at home are photographed on the spot for both the ID card and the passport for travel abroad. Applicants at embassies and consulates bring their own photo: 40 x 60 mm in colour on plain white under the official requirements, as a file, prints or both, depending on the mission; Washington asks for 5 x 5 cm.
Overview
Kyrgyzstan issues two passports to its citizens: the ID card for use at home and the general civil passport for travel abroad. Until 2021 both were handled by the State Registration Service, whose photo requirements, drawn up in line with ICAO standards, still describe the photo: 40 x 60 mm, colour, white background, face filling 70 to 80% of the height. Inside the country, the territorial offices and population service centres take the picture themselves; abroad, each embassy or consulate publishes the format it wants.
