Kazakhstan photo specifications
Photo sizes and rules for 3 documents issued in Kazakhstan, taken from the issuing authorities and linked to their official pages.
At a glance
All three Kazakh documents use a 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm) photo. For the passport and ID card, Public Service Centres take the photo on the spot. Online ID card renewal on eGov needs a file of 413 x 531 pixels, up to 30 KB. Embassies want four colour prints for a passport, and visa applicants paste one colour or black-and-white photo onto the form.
Overview
Kazakhstan's passport and national ID card are produced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and applied for through the State Corporation Government for Citizens, whose Public Service Centres photograph applicants themselves. The ID card, issued from 16 for use inside the country, can also be renewed online with an attached photo shortly before it expires. Citizens abroad order passports through embassies and consulates, which want printed photos and do not issue ID cards. Visas for foreign nationals come from the same missions and the migration service, or online as an e-visa through the Visa and Migration Portal.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Both follow the same photo requirements: 35 x 45 mm, a plain light background with grey recommended, the face filling 70 to 80% of the height, taken within 6 months. At a Public Service Centre the photo is taken for you for either document.
For an online ID card renewal on eGov (a digital file), for a passport ordered at an embassy or consulate (four colour prints), for applications on a paper form in Kazakhstan (two prints), and for a consular visa (one print pasted on the form).
The rules for passports and ID cards ask for a plain light background and recommend grey, with blue not recommended. The visa rules set no colour; the embassy in The Hague accepts white or grey.
