Vietnam photo specifications
Photo sizes and rules for 3 documents issued in Vietnam, taken from the issuing authorities and linked to their official pages.
At a glance
Vietnamese passports use a 4 x 6 cm (40 x 60 mm) photo on white, with a bare head, both ears showing and no glasses. The Vietnam e-Visa takes an uploaded 4 x 6 cm JPG or JPEG portrait of up to 2 MB, while embassies set their own print sizes, such as 2 x 2 inches in Washington. The APEC Business Travel Card needs two 3 x 4 cm (30 x 40 mm) prints on white.
Overview
A Vietnamese passport photo is 4 x 6 cm (40 x 60 mm) on a white background, taken within the last 6 months with a bare head, both ears visible and no glasses; the e-Visa takes the same 4 x 6 cm portrait as a JPG or JPEG file of up to 2 MB, and no pixel size is published for either.
All three documents are handled by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security, but the photos are not interchangeable. Passport applications go to provincial police immigration offices, the Immigration Department or a Vietnamese mission abroad, with a printed 4 x 6 cm photo or an upload through the National Public Service Portal. Visitors upload a 4 x 6 cm portrait and their passport page to the e-Visa portal, or bring prints to an embassy. Business people send two 3 x 4 cm prints, sealed by their employer, with the ABTC dossier.
The glasses rules differ too. The passport and the e-Visa ban glasses outright, while the ABTC rule bans only tinted glasses.

Yes. The Ministry of Public Security sets no studio or editing rule, only what the photo must show: 4 x 6 cm, a white background, taken within 6 months, facing straight ahead with a bare head, both ears visible and no glasses. Print two copies for the two boxes on the form. For a first chip passport the provincial office also photographs you on the day, but the dossier still lists your own photo.
