At a glance

This guide covers the Angolan passport. No official size is published for its photo: consulates in London, Lisbon and Washington ask for two or three colour passport-type prints on a white background. Visitors using the SME online visa service upload a JPEG face photo on a white background, 381 to 571 pixels wide and 496 to 744 pixels high, no larger than 200 KB.

Overview

One agency handles both sides of Angolan travel documents. The Serviço de Migração e Estrangeiros (SME) issues passports to citizens, through its portal and posts in Angola and through consulates and embassies abroad, and it runs the online visa service for foreign visitors. According to the SME's visa FAQ, diplomatic, official and courtesy visas are granted by the Ministry of External Relations through Angola's missions, and tourist, short-stay, study and medical visas are also issued by the missions.

The photo is handled differently for each. Passport applicants abroad bring printed colour photos on a white background to an in-person appointment, two or three depending on the consulate. Online visa applicants upload a face image within set pixel and file-size limits. Visas applied for at a mission use prints: London's application form has a passport-type photo glued to it, and Washington asks for two recent passport-type photos. Under Presidential Decree 189/23, nationals of the listed countries need no tourist visa for stays of up to 30 days per entry and 90 days a year.
