At a glance

Moroccan passport and CNIE photos are both 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm) colour prints, but their backgrounds differ: light blue, white or light grey for passports filed in Morocco, light grey or light blue for the CNIE. The e-visa takes a 35 x 45 mm photo file; consular visas ask for 4 x 3 cm prints on white. No photo size is published for foreigners' residence permits.

Overview

Several authorities share Morocco's identity documents. The Interior Ministry handles the biometric passport through local authorities in Morocco, and its national security directorate (DGSN) issues the electronic national identity card (CNIE) and foreigners' residence titles. The Foreign Ministry's consulates take passport and CNIE applications from Moroccans abroad and issue visas on paper, while the e-visa runs on the online Accès Maroc portal.

Every channel except the e-visa takes printed photos handed in with a paper file. Do not assume one set of prints fits everything: the passport accepts white, the CNIE decree names only light grey or light blue, and consular visas want smaller 4 x 3 cm prints on white.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, both are 35 x 45 mm; the CNIE decree writes it as 3.5 x 4.5 cm. The backgrounds differ: passport applications in Morocco accept light blue, white or light grey, while the CNIE decree names light grey or light blue. A light blue background meets both.

Only the e-visa, where you upload a 35 x 45 mm colour photo as a JPG, JPEG or PDF of up to 1 MB. Passport, CNIE, residence permit and consular visa applications all take printed photos.

One for a passport filed in Morocco and two at consulates; four for a CNIE under the decree, though consulates take two for most renewals; two for a consular visa. For a residence permit, UK government guidance says 10.

Yes. Both are filed in person at the consular service where you are registered, with printed photos. Moroccans abroad can also apply for the CNIE at a CNIE office in Morocco.
