At a glance

Tunisian passports take four prints of about 35 x 45 mm on a white background, or two 2 x 2 inch prints through the embassy in Washington. The national identity card (CIN) takes three 3 x 4 cm (30 x 40 mm) prints on a white or light backdrop. Residence cards for foreigners need four identity photos and visas one recent photo in Washington, with no size published for either.

Overview

Three of the four documents come from the Ministry of the Interior. Passports and identity cards are applied for at police and national guard stations in Tunisia, and passports also at embassies and consulates. Residence cards for foreigners go through the foreigners' offices of the national security districts, or the industry promotion agency for investors. Visas are issued by Tunisian embassies and consulates on a Foreign Ministry form.

Every one of these applications uses printed photos filed on paper; no official upload route was found. The sizes differ: the passport is about 35 x 45 mm, while the identity card is a smaller 3 x 4 cm. Laws passed in March 2024 provide for a chip passport and a chip identity card, but the ministry's published procedures still ask for prints.
