Myanmar eVisa photo requirements
The 38 × 46 mm photo rules set by Ministry of Immigration and Population, Myanmar for the Myanmar eVisa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Myanmar eVisa photo?
The official Myanmar eVisa portal of the Ministry of Immigration and Population asks for a recent, colour, passport-size photo as an image file of up to 2 MB. After you select it, the portal makes you crop it in a frame with fixed 38:46 proportions, the shape of a 38 x 46 mm photo, with your whole face inside. It publishes no pixel size or background colour, and asks you to upload again if the photo is not upright or clear.
The Myanmar eVisa is issued online by the Ministry of Immigration and Population through its official portal. It covers two visa types only, tourist and business. You register an account with your email address, fill in the form, upload a photo and supporting documents, and pay by Visa, MasterCard or JCB card. The approval letter arrives by email, and the visa itself is stamped into your passport when you arrive.
The photo goes in at step 3 of the form, "Photo & Document". The portal labels the field "Passport Size Color Photo", accepts an image file of up to 2 MB, and then opens a crop tool: you drag or resize a rectangle until your face sits fully inside it and press Crop. The rectangle keeps fixed proportions of 3.8 to 4.6, so whatever you upload ends up in that shape.
Look-alike websites sell Myanmar e-visas. The Washington embassy calls the ministry's portal the only official external link for eVisa applications and warns of fraudulent sites, and the Paris embassy also sends applicants to the ministry's website.

Key requirements
- Use the ministry portal only
Apply on the Ministry of Immigration and Population's eVisa portal. The Washington embassy calls it the only official external link for eVisa applications and warns of fraudulent sites.
- Image file up to 2 MB
The upload field reads "Select your image file on your computer (2MB Max)". A larger file is refused with a message that it exceeds the maximum allowed size. The official user guide lists JPG.
- Crop inside the frame
After choosing the file, drag or resize the rectangle so your face is fully inside it, then press Crop. The frame keeps 3.8 to 4.6 proportions, the shape of a 38 x 46 mm photo.
- Colour, passport-size and recent
The field is labelled "Passport Size Color Photo", and the FAQ asks for a recent digital passport-sized photograph. No print size, head size or background colour is published.
- Upright and clearly visible
The form tells you to check your photo and to upload it again if it is not upright or cannot be seen clearly.
- Documents go in a separate section
Supporting documents (JPEG, PNG or PDF, 2 MB each) go below the photo: a hotel booking and return ticket for a tourist eVisa, or the invitation letter, requisition letter and company papers for a business eVisa.
- No changes after payment
You can correct an application through Continue Application until you pay. After payment nothing can be changed, including the visa type, and errors on an approval letter mean applying again.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Apply only through the ministry's eVisa portal.
- Keep the photo file at 2 MB or less.
- Fit your whole face inside the crop frame before pressing Crop.
- Use a recent colour photo with your head upright.
- Check every detail before you pay.
- Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.
Don't
- Do not pay a look-alike website for a Myanmar e-visa.
- Do not upload a tilted or blurred photo.
- Do not put the photo in the documents table instead of the photo field.
- Do not expect to edit your application once payment is made.
- Do not rely on showing the approval letter on a phone at the border.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Babies and children
A child under 7 who is listed in the passport of the parent or guardian travelling with them goes in the "Children Information" section of that adult's application, which asks for the child's name, date of birth and gender. A child with their own passport needs a separate eVisa application and fee, with their own photo upload.
Printed and digital photos
The eVisa photo is digital only: you upload it and crop it in the portal, and no printed photo is sent anywhere. A photo taken with a phone can be cropped to 38 x 46 mm proportions and saved as a JPG under 2 MB before you upload it.
What you do print is the approval letter. The FAQ says you must currently print it and show it to the immigration officer on arrival; one copy is enough, and black and white is fine if it is legible.
Where to submit the photo
Everything happens on the ministry's eVisa portal: registration, the form, the photo and document uploads, and payment. Track the application in the Application Dashboard after logging in; embassies cannot check its status for you. The approval letter is valid for 90 days from issue.
The eVisa is valid for entry through Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw international airports and the Kawthaung land border checkpoint. Present the printed approval letter and your passport at the immigration counter; you do not queue at the visa-on-arrival desk.

Myanmar eVisa photo FAQ
The portal sets no print size. It crops your upload in a frame with fixed 38:46 proportions, the shape of a 38 x 46 mm photo, and limits the file to 2 MB. Start from a passport-style photo with your face centred and some space around it.
The official portal publishes none. It checks the file size (2 MB maximum) and makes you crop the image in its own frame. Pixel limits quoted on private visa websites do not appear on the portal.
No official page mentions 38 x 48 mm. The portal's crop frame is fixed at 38:46, so a taller 38 x 48 mm image would simply be cropped back to that shape when you upload it.
The portal does not say. Myanmar embassies ask for white or off-white backgrounds on paper visa photos, so a plain white background is consistent with the country's other visa rules.
The portal refuses files over 2 MB with a file-size message. It also asks you to upload again if the photo is not upright or not clearly visible. Reasons for rejecting a whole application are not given.
Only if the child has their own passport, in which case they need their own application, fee and photo. A child under 7 listed in your passport goes in the Children Information section of your form.
Tourist and business only. A tourist eVisa allows a 28-day stay and a business eVisa 70 days, each for a single entry. Other visas, such as religious visas for meditation, are applied for at an embassy.
