Quick answer

What size is the Myanmar visa photo?

For a visa from a Myanmar embassy or consulate, most missions ask for colour prints of 35 x 45 mm on a white or off-white background, taken within the last 6 months, showing your full face looking straight at the camera. Singapore uses 1.5 x 2 inches instead and wants no glasses. Photocopied or scanned photos are refused. Paris and Los Angeles ask for two prints, and Tel Aviv pastes one on the form.

Myanmar issues visas through two routes. Tourist and business visas can be applied for online on the Ministry of Immigration and Population's eVisa portal, which has its own upload rules. Every other visa type, and any tourist or business visa you would rather get on paper, comes from a Myanmar embassy or consulate. This page covers that embassy route.

The eVisa FAQ says embassies and consulates continue to issue visas alongside the online system, and that verification and approval policies are the same for both. Some purposes are embassy-only: anyone who wants to join meditation classes or stay at a meditation centre is told to apply for a religious visa at an embassy or consulate.

Each mission publishes its own requirements, the photo included. Most ask for 35 x 45 mm colour prints on a white or off-white background, but Singapore uses 1.5 x 2 inches and Paris gives no measurement at all. Follow the page of the mission that will handle your application.

Key requirements

  • Size depends on the mission

Tel Aviv, Rome and Los Angeles specify 35 x 45 mm, and Los Angeles also accepts a standard 2 x 2 inch photo. Singapore asks for 1.5 x 2 inches, with the head centred in the frame and the face covering about half of the photo.

  • White or off-white background

Tel Aviv, Los Angeles and Singapore accept white or off-white, and Paris says white. Singapore refuses photos taken against busy, patterned or dark backgrounds.

  • Taken in the last six months

Paris, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles and Singapore all require photos no more than six months old. Rome asks for recently taken photos.

  • Full face, straight on

The photo must show your full face with you looking directly at the camera. Tel Aviv and Los Angeles refuse side or angled views, and Paris wants both edges of your face clearly visible.

  • Originals, not copies

Tel Aviv and Los Angeles refuse photocopied photos, and Singapore refuses scanned ones. Los Angeles accepts digitally reproduced photos only without discernible pixels or dot patterns.

  • Glue, do not staple

Paris asks you to glue the photos to the forms, with no clips and no staples. Tel Aviv wants an unmounted original photo pasted on the visa application form.

  • Children apply separately

Paris says children need their own visa even when travelling on a parent's passport. Singapore applies the same rule to children over 7 and asks for a birth certificate for applicants under 15.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Check your mission's page for the size: 35 x 45 mm at most, 1.5 x 2 in at Singapore.
  • Use a plain white or off-white background.
  • Face the camera directly with your whole face showing.
  • Take the photos within six months of applying.
  • Glue the photos onto the forms where the mission asks you to.
  • Apply three to four weeks before travel if you go through Paris.

Don't

  • Do not send photocopied or scanned photos.
  • Do not use a busy, patterned or dark background.
  • Do not staple or clip photos to a Paris application.
  • Do not wear glasses in a photo for the Singapore embassy.
  • Do not turn your head: side and angled views are refused.

Sample photos

How a Myanmar visa photo should look, and the mistakes that most often get photos rejected. Each example is drawn to this document's 35 × 45 mm and background colour.

Correct
Open-mouth smile
Head tilted
Too close: head too big
Too far: head too small
Busy background
Shadows on face or background
Glare on glasses

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.

Glasses

The Singapore embassy says visa photos must be without any glasses. The other mission pages we read (Paris, Tel Aviv, Rome and Los Angeles) set no rule on glasses, so their general requirement applies: a clear, full-face view looking straight at the camera.

Headwear and religious dress

Singapore accepts head coverings only when the applicant's face is completely exposed. Tel Aviv and Los Angeles ask for a full-face view and give no separate rule on hats or religious coverings.

Babies and children

A child needs a separate visa application with its own photos. Paris applies this even to children travelling on a parent's passport. Singapore applies it to children over 7, and its tourist visa list also asks for a birth certificate from applicants under 15.

No mission we read sets different photo rules for children, so a child's prints follow the same size, background and recency rules as an adult's.

Embassy visas use printed photos attached to paper forms; there is no file to upload. If you would rather upload a photo, the eVisa is the online alternative, but it covers tourist and business visas only.

A digital photo can be cropped to 35 x 45 mm (or 1.5 x 2 inches for Singapore) and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo lab. Los Angeles accepts digitally reproduced photos only if they show no discernible pixels or dot patterns, so use a full-resolution print.

Where to submit the photo

Apply to the Myanmar embassy or consulate that covers where you live. Paris receives applications at its visa section, by registered post if you live outside Paris, and asks for them three or four weeks before departure. Los Angeles takes applications by courier with a prepaid self-addressed return envelope and rejects incomplete files.

Singapore works by appointment: its tourist visa list starts with the appointment letter (online queue number) and two 1.5 x 2 inch photos. Tel Aviv receives visa applications on weekdays during set visa hours.

How to get your Myanmar visa photo

  1. Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Myanmar visa: 35 × 45 mm print, white or off-white background. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
  2. Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: size depends on the mission; white or off-white background; taken in the last six months; full face, straight on.
  3. Prepare a print or digital file. Embassy visas use printed photos attached to paper forms; there is no file to upload. If you would rather upload a photo, the eVisa is the online alternative, but it covers tourist and business visas only.
  4. Submit the photo with your application. Apply to the Myanmar embassy or consulate that covers where you live. Paris receives applications at its visa section, by registered post if you live outside Paris, and asks for them three or four weeks before departure.

Myanmar visa photo FAQ

At most embassies, 35 x 45 mm: Tel Aviv, Rome and Los Angeles all say so, and Los Angeles also takes 2 x 2 inches. The Singapore embassy asks for 1.5 x 2 inches. Paris only says passport size.

No. Embassy visas need printed photos glued or pasted on paper forms. The eVisa takes an image file of up to 2 MB that you crop inside the online portal, and it covers tourist and business visas only.

Not at the Singapore embassy, which says photos must be without any glasses. Other missions we checked set no glasses rule but require a clear full-face view looking straight at the camera.

Paris, Los Angeles and Singapore each ask for two prints with a tourist visa application. Tel Aviv asks for an original photo pasted on the application form.

The Ministry of Immigration and Population's eVisa portal and the websites of Myanmar embassies and consulates. The Washington embassy calls the ministry portal the only official external link for eVisa applications and warns of fraudulent sites. Private agencies that look official are not government services.

Yes at Paris, which says children need their own visa even on a parent's passport. Singapore requires a separate visa for children over 7. Each application needs its own photos.

No. The eVisa FAQ says people who want to join meditation classes or stay at a meditation centre must apply for a religious visa at a Myanmar embassy or consulate, with that mission's printed photos.
