Overview

Svalbard is part of the Kingdom of Norway, so residents with Norwegian citizenship hold the ordinary Norwegian passport. The Governor of Svalbard acts as the passport office on the archipelago: you book a time online, attend in person and collect the passport from the Governor. The same office issues the national ID card.

The photo is not something you bring. The Governor takes it with a biometric kiosk when you attend and does not accept photos from a photographer or a photo booth. Only an emergency passport, valid for one journey, needs your own approved photo. The Governor's page does not mention Jan Mayen.

Norwegian citizens who live on Svalbard use the ordinary Norwegian passport. They apply to the Governor of Svalbard (Sysselmesteren) in Longyearbyen, who acts as the passport office.
