Belarus visa photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus for the Belarus visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Belarus visa photo?
A Belarus visa application through an embassy or consulate takes one photo of 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in), taken no more than 6 months before you apply, full face, with the face filling about 70-80% of the photo. Embassies ask for a plain, evenly lit, light background and no sunglasses or head covering unless worn for religious or ethnic reasons. The e-visa pages list no photo.
Entry visas to Belarus are issued by Belarusian embassies and consulates and by the Foreign Ministry's division for the admission of foreigners at Minsk National Airport. Belarus issues transit (B), short-term (C) and long-term (D) visas, for one, two or multiple entries. The Foreign Ministry's general list asks for a completed application form, one 35 x 45 mm photo, the foreign travel document, visa support documents, medical insurance and proof that the consular fee has been paid.
The embassies add detail to the photo rule. The embassy in Washington wants one colour photograph, no older than 6 months, with the face taking up 70-80% of the picture, on a plain, evenly lit and light background, in high resolution and without creases or ink. The embassy in Berlin asks for the photo to be glued onto the application form and describes the size as the German passport format.
Many travellers need no visa photo at all. Holders of ordinary passports of 68 countries, including the USA, Canada, the EU countries and the UK, can apply online for a single-entry e-visa of up to 30 days through the E-Pasluga portal. Belarus also runs visa-free schemes through its airports and, until 31 December 2026, at road and rail crossings for citizens of 38 European states.

Key requirements
- One photo, 35 x 45 mm
The Foreign Ministry asks for one photograph of 35 x 45 mm with each visa application, made no earlier than 6 months before you submit it. The same size appears on the embassy pages in Washington and Berlin.
- Face 70 to 80 per cent
The face should fill about 70-80% of the photo, and Berlin measures this against the vertical size of the picture. The photo is a full-face view.
- Light, plain background
Washington asks for a plain, evenly lit and light background in high resolution. Berlin asks for a sharp photo on an even light background. Neither names one specific colour.
- No sunglasses or hats
Washington refuses sunglasses, hats and other head coverings, unless the head covering is worn for ethnic or religious reasons.
- Glued to the form in Berlin
At the embassy in Berlin the photo is glued onto the visa application form, and only the original form is accepted, not a copy. Applications that do not meet the requirements, for example without a photo, are returned unprocessed.
- E-visa: no photo listed
The e-visa is applied for online through the E-Pasluga portal, service code 3.04.01, without going to a mission and without visa support documents. Neither the Foreign Ministry's e-visa page nor the portal's service description lists a photo among the requirements.

- Do not use a photo older than 6 months.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Glasses
The Washington embassy's list rules out sunglasses in the visa photo. Neither it nor the Foreign Ministry says anything about clear prescription glasses, so no ban on them is published.
Keep the face fully visible either way: it has to fill about 70-80% of the picture and be shown full face.
Headwear and religious dress
Washington says the photo must be without a hat or other head covering, unless it is worn for ethnic or religious reasons. The Foreign Ministry's general list does not mention headwear, and the Berlin list asks only for a full-face, sharp photo on a light background.
Babies and children
For a minor, the Washington embassy requires the visa application form to be signed by the legal representative. An applicant under 18 also adds a copy of the full birth certificate showing the parents and copies of the parents' passports. The embassy publishes no separate photo rules for children.
Printed and digital photos
Embassy and consulate applications are on paper: you print the form, attach one 35 x 45 mm photo and hand the set in person or send it by post, which Washington accepts from all applicants and Berlin from citizens of Germany and other EU countries. Washington wants a high-resolution colour print with no creases or ink.
The e-visa is handled online on the E-Pasluga portal, which sends the decision and a PDF of the visa to your personal account; you print the visa and carry it. The official pages do not ask for a photo upload.
A digital photo can be cropped to 35 x 45 mm and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.
Where to submit the photo
Apply at the Belarusian embassy or consulate that covers where you live. Washington takes applications in person or by post with a pre-paid return envelope. A consular officer may ask for an interview or for more documents.
Visas are also issued at Minsk National Airport by the Foreign Ministry's admission division, but the inviting party must lodge the visa support documents there in advance. For the e-visa, create a personal account on E-Pasluga, choose service 3.04.01 and allow seven calendar days for the decision.

The official pages do not list one. The Foreign Ministry says e-visas are issued automatically through the E-Pasluga portal without applying to a mission or providing visa support documents, and the portal's service description lists no photo. Follow whatever the online form asks for on the day.
A plain, light background that is evenly lit, according to the embassy in Washington; the embassy in Berlin also asks for an even light background. Neither names a specific colour, so white or another plain light shade fits the wording.
