Ukraine visa photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Ukrainian State Center for International Education for the Ukraine visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Ukraine visa photo?
A Ukrainian consular visa needs one colour photo of 35 x 45 mm, and since 2022 the mission or visa centre also photographs your face and scans your fingerprints. Children under 12, holders of diplomatic or service passports and humanitarian cases may instead hand in one 10 x 15 cm colour print. For an e-Visa you upload a photo on the Foreign Ministry's portal, which publishes no pixel size.
Visas for Ukraine are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA): sticker visas through Ukrainian embassies and consulates, and electronic visas (e-Visas) online. The documents for every visa type are set by the Rules for Issuing Visas for Entry into Ukraine and Transit through its Territory, approved by Cabinet of Ministers resolution No 118 of 1 March 2017.
For a consular visa you complete the application form online, then hand in your documents at the mission or, in some countries, at a visa application centre. The Rules list one colour 35 x 45 mm photo among the documents. Since 1 January 2022 they also require biometric data: a photograph of the face and the fingerprints of all ten fingers, taken when you apply. The Ukrainian State Center for International Education gives the same list to students applying for a type D visa.
The e-Visa is a single or double-entry visa for stays of up to 30 days, available to nationals of the countries on the MFA's list. You register on the MFA web platform, fill in the form, upload a photo and scanned documents and pay online; a scanned copy of the photo is printed on the e-Visa that is emailed to you.

Key requirements
- One 35 x 45 mm colour photo
Resolution No 118 asks every applicant for a consular visa, whatever the visa type, for one colour photo of 35 x 45 mm. Embassy pages in Japan, Switzerland, Denmark and Lebanon list the same size.
- Face photo and fingerprints at the mission
Since 1 January 2022 the mission, or an external service provider such as a visa centre, takes a photograph of your face and scans all ten fingerprints. The Rules require the digitised face image to meet ICAO Doc 9303.
- 10 x 15 cm print for some applicants
The live face photo may be waived for holders of diplomatic or service passports, children under 12 and people entering Ukraine for humanitarian reasons. In those cases the Rules ask for one colour 10 x 15 cm photo, from which the face can be scanned.
- Neutral, full-face pose
MFA missions ask for a full-face photo taken straight on, with a neutral expression, eyes open and mouth closed, against a light background. The Embassy in Lebanon adds that the print should be on normal photographic paper.
- E-Visa photo upload
On the e-Visa portal you upload the photo with your application, alongside scans of your passport, health insurance, proof of funds and the purpose of your trip. The MFA's requirements for e-Visas say a scanned copy of the photo is printed on the visa itself.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Complete the visa application form online before your appointment.
- Bring one recent 35 x 45 mm colour print to the mission.
- Face the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed.
- Plan for fingerprints and a face scan when you hand in documents.
- Have a 10 x 15 cm colour print ready for a child under 12.
- Apply for an e-Visa only on the MFA portal at an mfa.gov.ua address.
Don't
- Do not hand in a 30 x 40 mm photo for a Ukrainian visa.
- Do not print the photo on plain paper.
- Do not wear a head cover that hides your cheeks, chin or forehead.
- Do not pay a look-alike e-Visa site that is not run by the MFA.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Headwear and religious dress
MFA missions accept a head cover worn for religious or medical reasons, provided the photo still shows your cheeks, chin and forehead, as the Embassy in Lebanon puts it. The Embassy in Cyprus asks for no hat or head covering that hides the hair or hairline unless it is worn daily for religious reasons; the full face must then be visible with no shadow on it. It also rejects headphones and wireless hands-free devices.
Babies and children
Each child needs a visa application form of their own, signed by a parent or legal representative. Resolution No 118 allows the fingerprints and the live face photo to be waived for children under 12. When the face photo is waived, the Rules ask for one colour 10 x 15 cm print instead, so bring one in case the mission uses that route.
Printed and digital photos
Consular visas combine a print and a live capture: you hand in one 35 x 45 mm colour photo with the form, and the mission or visa centre photographs your face for the biometric record. A 35 x 45 mm digital photo can be cropped to size and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.
The e-Visa is fully online. The MFA lists the photo among the uploads but publishes no pixel dimensions or file size on its pages, and the 30 x 40 mm and 450 x 600 pixel figures quoted elsewhere do not appear in any official source read for this page.
Where to submit the photo
Consular visas are handled by Ukrainian embassies and consulates. Embassy pages ask you to fill in the visa form on the MFA visa website and book an appointment there; some missions, such as the Embassy in Lebanon, take documents only through a VFS Global visa application centre.
E-Visas are issued online by the MFA consular service. Check that the portal address ends in mfa.gov.ua before entering your details or paying, because other sites selling Ukrainian e-Visas are not run by the Ministry.
How to get your Ukraine visa photo

- Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: one 35 x 45 mm colour photo; face photo and fingerprints at the mission; 10 x 15 cm print for some applicants; neutral, full-face pose.
- Prepare a print or digital file. Consular visas combine a print and a live capture: you hand in one 35 x 45 mm colour photo with the form, and the mission or visa centre photographs your face for the biometric record.
- Submit the photo with your application. Consular visas are handled by Ukrainian embassies and consulates.
