Belize visa photo requirements
The 2 × 2 in photo rules set by Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour, Belize for the Belize visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Belize visa photo?
Belize publishes no size, background or age rule for visa photos. The Immigration department's visa document list names the application form, passport and flight itinerary, while the Belizean missions in Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles say the application must include "a passport size photograph". The only size Belize publishes for photographs is 2 x 2 inches (50.8 x 50.8 mm), for passports and residence, so confirm with your mission.
A Belize entry visa lets you enter and remain legal in Belize for a maximum of 30 days from the date of entry. Whether you need one depends on your nationality: the Immigration department's website lets you look your country up in a table. Holders of a valid multiple entry visa or permanent residence card from the United States or Canada, and holders of a valid multiple entry Schengen visa, are exempt for visits of up to 30 days.
The department lists five visa types: tourist, employment or business, student, family reunification, and sports delegations. If you live outside Belize you apply at your nearest Belizean diplomatic or consular mission. If you or your sponsor are already in Belize, the application can be submitted only at the Belmopan headquarters office, and Central American nationals may apply at any Immigration Office in Belize.
The photograph is where the sources thin out. The Immigration pages list the application form, a passport valid for more than 6 months and a flight itinerary, with sponsor documents where relevant, and the visa form itself has no photograph box. The embassy in Washington and the consulates in Chicago and Los Angeles are the sources that mention a photograph, and none of them gives a size.

Key requirements
- The Immigration list has no photo
Under "Documents you need to present" the department names the application form, passport and flight itinerary. Sponsored applicants add a letter of financial support, the sponsor's identification, proof of kinship, an invitation letter, employment letters and bank statements.
- Missions ask for a passport size photograph
The Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles pages all say the application must include a passport size photograph, a copy of a bank statement, a letter of employment if applicable and a copy of the itinerary. They give no size, background or recency rule.
- The only published size is for passports
Belize's Immigration department publishes 2 x 2 inches only for passports, residence and the Qualified Retirement Program. For a visa, a print at that size follows the department's own standard, but ask your mission to confirm.
- No photo box on the form
The visa application form (revised 06.2019) asks for applicant details, travel details, occupation and declarations. It has no space for a photograph, so the photo is handed in or sent with the form.
- Passport validity
Your passport must be valid, and the department says it must be valid for more than 6 months. The passport itself is submitted along with the form at the Washington embassy.
- Check whether you need a visa first
The Washington embassy says U.S. citizens and holders of U.S. permanent resident cards or U.S. multiple entry visas do not need a visa to enter Belize. The department's nationality table shows the answer for every country.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Check the nationality table on the Immigration website before you apply.
- Ask your mission which size and background it wants before you print.
- Take a clear, front-facing photo with a plain white background.
- Read the mission's own page: Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles each publish one.
- Complete the form, sign it, and attach the photo with the other documents.
Don't
- Do not assume the missions accept any size: none has published one.
- Do not use white-out on the form: the department does not accept it.
- Do not submit documents in another language without a translation by the proper authority.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Glasses
No visa page gives a rule on glasses. The Washington embassy's passport instructions list "no glasses", and the Immigration department's passport specification bans glasses and tinted lenses, so remove them for any Belize photo. Ask your mission if you have a medical reason to keep them on.
Headwear and religious dress
No visa page gives a rule on head coverings. The Immigration department's passport specification allows them only for religious, cultural or medical justification. If you wear one, ask your mission whether it accepts it in the photo and how it wants the face shown.
Babies and children
The visa pages give no separate photo rules for children. The visa form has a section for children, asking for each child's name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, relationship and whether they travel with you. If a child needs their own visa, confirm the photo requirement with your mission, because none is published.
Printed and digital photos
The pages read describe a paper application: a form to complete, sign and return to the mission, with supporting documents and the photograph. No electronic upload, file format or pixel size is published for visa photos, so treat the photo as a print unless your mission says otherwise.
A digital photo can be cropped and resized to the size your mission confirms, or printed on a 4 x 6 inch sheet at a photo counter and cut down.
Where to submit the photo
Outside Belize, apply at your nearest Belizean diplomatic or consular mission. The Immigration department lists missions in London, Taipei, Washington, Los Angeles, Florida and Chicago. The Washington embassy says the completed, signed form must be returned to it along with the passport and the other documents. The embassy pages state fees and processing times, which change, so read them on the day.
Inside Belize, a visa application from you or your sponsor can be submitted only at the Belmopan headquarters office. Central American nationals may use any Immigration Office. A visitor who stays beyond 30 days needs a Visitor's Permit Extension from an Immigration Office.
