Quick answer

What size is the Egypt visa photo?

Egypt sets no single visa photo size. The official e-Visa portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, publishes no photo rules on its public pages, and no photo is listed for a visa on arrival. Consulates set their own: Washington and Los Angeles want 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) photos on white, Washington adding that the photo must be at most 6 months old, while London wants two coloured 35 x 45 mm photos on white.

Ordinary visas for Egypt are issued by the Ministry of Interior through its passports administration and by Egyptian consulates abroad; diplomatic visas are a Foreign Ministry matter. The Ministry of Interior describes three ways to get a single-entry visa: at the port of arrival, through the electronic visa website, or from an Egyptian mission abroad. A six-month multiple-entry visa comes from the e-Visa site or a mission, and the five-year multiple-entry visa only from a mission.

The e-Visa portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg belongs to the Ministry of Interior, covers tourist visas only and is open to the nationalities listed in its FAQ. Apply at least seven days before departure and print the e-Visa to show at the port of entry. The embassy in Washington calls the portal the only official link and says the consulates cannot help with portal applications. Other websites offering Egyptian e-Visas are not the government portal.

Photo sizes come from the consulates. A visa applied for on paper needs printed photos, and the size depends on where you apply: 2 x 2 inches in the United States, 35 x 45 mm in London. Visas on arrival are bought at the airport. GOV.UK says that from 1 August 2026 Cairo airport also sells digital visas on arrival through self-service machines and an online portal, and the embassy in Washington says Egyptian airports replaced visa stickers with an electronic QR code on 1 September 2026.

Key requirements

  • Use only the official e-Visa portal

The Egyptian e-Visa is issued through visa2egypt.gov.eg, the Ministry of Interior's portal, and the Foreign Ministry links to it for tourist visas. The embassy in Washington describes it as the only official link and refers all e-Visa questions to the portal's own help page.

  • No published e-Visa photo specification

The portal's FAQ, how-to-apply steps and disclaimer give no photo size, file format or file limit. Its steps tell you to choose the visa type and read the instructions shown there, so follow what the form asks for when you apply.

  • 2 x 2 inches at US consulates

Washington asks for a recent high-definition personal passport photo, 2 x 2 inches, on a white background and no more than 6 months old. Los Angeles asks for two recent high-definition 2 x 2 inch photos on white.

  • 35 x 45 mm in London

The London consulate asks for two recent coloured passport-size photographs, 35 x 45 mm (its form writes 45 mm x 35 mm), taken against a white background, with your name written on the back and attached to the form.

  • Photos stapled to the Washington form

For a tourist or business visa in Washington, the signed application form carries one photo stapled to it, a copy of the form also carries a photo, and one more 2 x 2 inch photo goes in the file.

  • Pre-approval files go by email

Nationals who need clearance from Egypt first, such as those of Afghanistan, Iran or Syria and holders of travel documents, email Washington the signed form with its stapled photo and the other papers as one PDF of no more than 5 MB.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Apply for an e-Visa only at visa2egypt.gov.eg
  • Check which consulate covers the state or country where you live
  • Use a white background for a consular visa application
  • Print 2 x 2 inch photos for Egyptian consulates in the United States
  • Write your name on the back of photos for the London consulate
  • Staple a photo to the Washington application form and to its copy

Don't

  • Do not apply for an e-Visa through sites other than the gov.eg portal
  • Do not send Washington a photo more than 6 months old
  • Do not send 2 x 2 inch photos to London, which asks for 35 x 45 mm
  • Do not ask the US consulates about an e-Visa application
  • Do not book flights or hotels before a pre-approval decision arrives

Babies and children

On the e-Visa portal every visitor needs an application of their own, made in a personal account, but parents can apply for their children from the parent's account. The disclaimer page states both rules.

The consulates publish no separate photo rules for children. A child applying through Washington, Los Angeles or London needs the same number and size of photos as an adult on that consulate's list.

Consular visas use printed photos. Washington, Los Angeles and London all want physical prints with the paper form, at the counter or by post. The e-Visa is applied for online, but the portal publishes no photo rules before you sign in. The only digital specifications in official sources are for emailed files: Washington takes pre-approval and Sudanese applications as one PDF of no more than 5 MB, and Los Angeles asks Sudanese applicants for a single PDF at 300 DPI under 5 MB.

For a consular application, a digital photo can be cropped to 2 x 2 inches or to 35 x 45 mm and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.

Where to submit the photo

For an e-Visa, use visa2egypt.gov.eg and print the approved visa from your account. Visas on arrival are sold at approved airports before the immigration counters. Visitors flying into Sharm El-Sheikh for under 15 days in the Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba resorts get a free entry permission stamp instead; the London consulate limits this to UK, EU and US nationals.

Consular visas are handled by the consulate for your place of residence. In the US, Washington accepts residents of DC and eight states from Delaware to Florida, at its counter or by mail; Los Angeles covers the western states, and New York, Chicago and Houston serve the rest. In the UK, apply at the Consulate General in London in person, paying by card, or by post with a postal order.

How to get your Egypt visa photo

  1. Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Egypt visa: 2 × 2 in print, white background. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
  2. Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: use only the official e-Visa portal; no published e-Visa photo specification; 2 x 2 inches at US consulates; 35 x 45 mm in London.
  3. Prepare a print or digital file. Consular visas use printed photos. Washington, Los Angeles and London all want physical prints with the paper form, at the counter or by post. The e-Visa is applied for online, but the portal publishes no photo rules before you sign in.
  4. Submit the photo with your application. For an e-Visa, use visa2egypt.gov.eg and print the approved visa from your account. Visas on arrival are sold at approved airports before the immigration counters.

Egypt visa photo FAQ

It depends on how you apply. Egyptian consulates in the United States ask for 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) photos on a white background, and the London consulate asks for 35 x 45 mm coloured photos on white. The e-Visa portal publishes no photo size on its public pages, and visas on arrival list no photo.

The portal's public pages do not say. Its FAQ lists a passport valid for six months, the e-Visa printout, a travel itinerary, supporting letters and hotel details as entry requirements, and its how-to-apply steps tell you to read the instructions for your visa type after signing in. No official page sets an e-Visa photo size.

visa2egypt.gov.eg, run by Egypt's Ministry of Interior. The Egyptian embassy in Washington calls it the only official link, and the Foreign Ministry links to it for tourist visas. Other sites selling Egyptian e-Visas are not the government portal.

No photo is listed. The Washington embassy's notes on visas on arrival ask for a passport valid for more than 6 months and, for green card holders, a card valid for more than 6 months, and advise checking with the airline. GOV.UK describes buying the visa at airport kiosks. Nationals on the pre-approval list cannot get one.

For a tourist or business visa: one photo stapled to the signed application form, a copy of the form with a photo, and one more 2 x 2 inch photo. Diplomatic and United Nations laissez-passer applicants add two 2 x 2 inch photos, and official passport holders three.

Yes. The portal asks for a separate application for each visitor in their own account, but parents can apply for their children from the parent's account.

Not for a short resort stay. GOV.UK says British visitors arriving by air at Sharm El-Sheikh and staying under 15 days in the Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba resorts get a free entry permission stamp. The London consulate gives the same rule for UK, EU and US nationals. Travel beyond those resorts, or a longer stay, needs a visa.
