Indonesia passport photo requirements
The 2 × 2 in photo rules set by Directorate General of Immigration for the Indonesia passport, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Indonesia passport photo?
You do not bring a photo for an Indonesian passport. The immigration office takes your photo and fingerprints during the appointment, after the fee is paid and before the interview, and Indonesian missions abroad do the same. M-Paspor only takes pictures of your documents. Prints are needed only for some mission forms: KBRI Washington asks for two 2 x 2 in (51 x 51 mm) colour photos on white for an SPLP emergency travel document.
The Indonesian passport (paspor biasa) is issued by the Directorate General of Immigration, part of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, either as an electronic passport (e-paspor) or as a non-electronic one. In Indonesia you register through the M-Paspor app or fill in the form at an immigration office counter, then attend in person. Citizens living abroad apply at the Indonesian embassy or consulate for the country where they reside.
The passport photo is not something you supply. The Directorate General lists "take photo and fingerprint records" as a step in issuing every regular passport: for adults, for children under 17 and for children born abroad. Missions use the same system. KBRI Washington asks applicants to come in person for biometric capture, and KBRI Den Haag explains that the photo it takes on the day is the one printed in the passport. A print matters only where a mission asks for one on its own form, or for an SPLP, the single-journey document that stands in for a passport.

In the official words
Exact wording from the official sources, quoted because the details matter:
The issuance steps include "Take photo and fingerprint records": the immigration officer photographs the applicant at the office during the appointment, after the fee is paid and before the interview.
Key requirements
- Photo taken during the appointment
Once your documents are checked and the fee is paid, an immigration officer records your photo and fingerprints, then interviews you. The Directorate General lists the same steps for adults, for children under 17 and for children born abroad.
- M-Paspor takes document images only
The app is for registering, uploading pictures of your KTP, family card and other documents, and choosing an office and interview date. The Directorate General asks for bright, sharp images with no text cut off or tilted, and sets no file size limit.
- Biometrics at missions abroad
Since 16 April 2018, passport services at all Indonesian missions run on the immigration management system linked to the data centre in Jakarta. KBRI Washington therefore requires you to attend with an appointment so that your fingerprints and photo can be taken.
- Form photo at some missions
KBRI Den Haag asks for one passport photo to glue onto its application form and will not take it for you; the photo it takes at the counter is for the biodata page. It states no size or colour for the form photo.
- SPLP prints: 2 x 2 in on white
For an SPLP at KBRI Washington, including the replacement for a tourist who lost a passport, bring two recent colour photos measuring 2 x 2 in (5 x 5 cm) with a white background.
- US-born child: 4 x 6 cm print
For a child born in the United States after 1 August 2006, KBRI Washington asks for one recent colour photo of the child, 4 x 6 cm (40 x 60 mm), taken within the last 3 months, on top of the biometric visit.
Do's and don'ts
Do

- Bring the form photo yourself if the mission asks for one
- Bring two 2 x 2 in prints on white for an SPLP at KBRI Washington
Don't
- Do not upload blurred, tilted or cropped document images
- Do not miss your slot: KBRI Washington makes you book a new one
- Do not expect KBRI Den Haag to take the photo for its form
- Do not leave the child at home: children must attend for biometrics
- Do not use a child photo older than 3 months for a US application

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Babies and children
Children are photographed and fingerprinted like adults. The Directorate General's page for applicants under 17 lists the same "take photo and fingerprint records" step, while the documents come from the parents: a parent's KTP, the family card, the birth certificate and the parents' marriage certificate, plus any old passport.
Abroad, KBRI Den Haag states that the child must be present for biometrics (the passport photo and fingerprints), and it also wants one photo glued to the form. A child born outside Indonesia applies to the immigration officer at the mission with a parent's Indonesian passport and the birth certificate issued by the mission. In the United States, KBRI Washington adds one 4 x 6 cm colour photo of the child, taken within the last 3 months, for a child born there after 1 August 2006.
Printed and digital photos
There is no digital passport photo to prepare. M-Paspor handles registration, document images and booking, and your face is captured by the officer at the counter. If you apply in Indonesia, you need no print at all.
Prints come into a few mission procedures only. KBRI Den Haag wants one photo glued to the application form. KBRI Washington wants two 2 x 2 in colour prints on white for an SPLP, and one 4 x 6 cm colour print for a child born in the US. These are the only print sizes found on official pages, and none of them asks for a red background.
A digital photo can be cropped to 2 x 2 in and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter if your mission asks for prints.
Where to submit the photo
In Indonesia, apply at an immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi). Most applicants register first in M-Paspor, where each office sets its own quota of appointments; a manual application can be made at the counter instead. If the documents are incomplete, they are handed back and the application is treated as withdrawn.
Abroad, apply at the Indonesian mission for the country where you live: KBRI Den Haag, for example, does not serve citizens who live in other EU countries. KBRI Washington takes an online form first, then the in-person biometric appointment, and can post the new passport back if you provide a prepaid, tracked return envelope.
How to get your Indonesia passport photo

- Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: photo taken during the appointment; m-Paspor takes document images only; biometrics at missions abroad; form photo at some missions.
- Prepare a print or digital file. There is no digital passport photo to prepare. M-Paspor handles registration, document images and booking, and your face is captured by the officer at the counter. If you apply in Indonesia, you need no print at all.
- Submit the photo with your application. In Indonesia, apply at an immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi). Most applicants register first in M-Paspor, where each office sets its own quota of appointments; a manual application can be made at the counter instead.
Indonesia passport photo FAQ
Not in Indonesia. After your documents are checked and the fee is paid, the immigration officer records your photo and fingerprints at the counter, before the interview. The published requirements list identity and civil documents only, with no photo. Some missions abroad ask for a print to put on their own form.
There is no print size for the passport itself, because the photo is captured at the office. The official print sizes found apply to mission procedures: 2 x 2 in (5 x 5 cm) on white for an SPLP at KBRI Washington, and 4 x 6 cm for a child born in the US.
No. M-Paspor is used to register, upload pictures of your documents such as the KTP and family card, pick an immigration office and book an interview date. Your portrait is taken at the office on the day of the appointment.
Yes. Missions issue passports through the immigration system linked to Jakarta, so you attend in person for photo and fingerprints. KBRI Washington requires an appointment for this, and KBRI Den Haag says the photo it takes is the one in the passport.
Yes. The child application pages list the same photo and fingerprint step as for adults, and KBRI Den Haag states that the child must be present for biometrics. Parents bring the documents, including the birth certificate and their own KTP or passport.
KBRI Washington asks for two recent colour photos, 2 x 2 in (5 x 5 cm, passport size), with a white background. An SPLP replaces a passport for a single journey into Indonesia and is valid for up to 2 years.
No official page read asks for red. The passport photo is taken by the officer, and the only colour stated for passport-related prints, in KBRI Washington's SPLP rule, is white.
Not fully. KBRI Washington takes the application form online but requires you to come in person, with an appointment, for fingerprints and photo. It can post the new passport back to you if you supply a prepaid return envelope with tracking.
