Mozambique visa photo requirements
The 35 × 45 mm photo rules set by Serviço Nacional de Migração (SENAMI) for the Mozambique visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Mozambique visa photo?
For an eVisa or ETA on evisa.gov.mz, the government portal, you upload a recent, passport-style frontal photo; documents may be JPEG, PDF or PNG and no pixel size is given. Visas applied for at an embassy use prints: Tokyo asks for one 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm) photo, London for two colour photos, and Washington for two colour photos on a white background.
Entry to Mozambique is governed by Law 23/2022 of 29 December on the entry and stay of foreign citizens, and visas are handled by SENAMI, the national migration service, and by Mozambican embassies and high commissions. Online requests go through evisa.gov.mz, the portal SENAMI publishes and the missions in London and Tokyo link to. Since 11 February 2026 a new platform processes every online request as an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA): there is no separate ETA button, so you choose Tourism or Business. An approved applicant receives a pre-authorisation letter with a barcode to print and show at the border.
Under Decree 10/2023 of 31 March 2023, ordinary passport holders from 29 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Portugal and China, need no visa for tourism or business stays of 30 days, extendable by another 30. They must still register on the portal before travelling, at least 48 hours ahead according to the Tokyo embassy. Citizens of several Southern African neighbours, including South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, need no visa for short tourist or business stays; the portal's eligibility table gives the length for each country.
Other visa categories, and nationals the portal does not serve, apply through an embassy, where printed photos are still required. Start online only from evisa.gov.mz, not from a commercial agency's site.

Key requirements
- Exempt travellers still register
Nationals of the 29 countries covered by Decree 10/2023 need no visa for tourism or business, but London says they must apply for prior authorisation on evisa.gov.mz before travelling, and Tokyo asks for the pre-registration at least 48 hours before departure.
- One online platform since February 2026
The platform launched on 11 February 2026 replaced the previous one. All online requests are processed as an ETA; you select Tourism or Business according to your trip. Anyone with an undecided request on the old platform should not apply again.
- A frontal photo upload
The portal's tourist and business visa pages list a frontal photo, described as a recent, passport-style photo, next to a colour copy of the passport bio page. All documents must be scanned, clear and legible, in JPEG, PDF or PNG.
- Print the approval
The portal emails a preliminary eVisa or ETA. Download the approved PDF, print it and keep it with your passport: London says the pre-authorisation letter with its barcode must be presented at the border, and the portal says it is checked on arrival.
- Embassy visas use prints
Applications made at a mission take printed photos. Tokyo asks for one 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm photo with the applicant's name on the back, London for two colour passport photos, and Washington for two colour passport-size photos on a white background.
- Some passports must use an embassy
The portal states that travellers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia cannot apply through it and should request a visa at the nearest embassy, with that mission's photo rules.
- Arrival visas only without a mission
Tokyo says tourist visas on arrival are available at border posts, including international airports, for travellers from countries that have no Mozambican embassy or consulate. Travellers from countries with one should get the right visa before leaving.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Start your online request at evisa.gov.mz.
- Upload a recent, front-facing passport-style photo.
- Register at least 48 hours before departure if your country is visa-exempt.
- Print the approved pre-authorisation letter and carry it with your passport.
- Write your name on the back of a print for the Tokyo embassy.
- Use colour prints on a white background for Washington.
Don't
- Do not start from an agency site; go to the government portal first.
- Do not apply online with a passport from one of the six countries the portal excludes.
- Do not submit a second request while an old-platform request is still pending.
- Do not upload files in formats other than JPEG, PDF or PNG.
- Do not count on a visa on arrival if your country has a Mozambican embassy.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Babies and children
Applicants under 18 must add documents about the adult responsible for them. On the eVisa portal that means the identity document of the person with parental authority and that person's statement of responsibility. Tokyo's general conditions say a minor's application is made by the parent or legal representative, with written permission from the parents to travel.
Washington asks under-18s to attach a parental travel consent letter and their birth certificate to the visa form. None of the official pages sets separate photo rules for children, so the same upload or print rules apply.
Printed and digital photos
Online, the photo is a file: the tourist and business pages ask for a recent, passport-style frontal photo and accept JPEG, PDF or PNG, without a pixel size, file-size limit or background colour. The portal's FAQ says each upload must meet the extension and size limit shown at the upload step.
At a mission, the photo is printed. Tokyo takes one 3.5 x 4.5 cm print, in colour or black-and-white, and needs no new photo if you reapply within the same year. London wants two colour photos with the paper form and other documents printed on one side of A4. Washington first takes everything except the photos, money order and return envelope as one emailed PDF of up to 5 MB, then asks for the two prints with the passport. A digital photo can be printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.
Where to submit the photo
Online: evisa.gov.mz, the portal of the Serviço Nacional de Migração. Its Apply button leads to the application system run with VFS Global, where you also track your request. Apply 3 to 5 days before the trip, as the portal advises, to leave time for corrections.
At a mission: the embassy or high commission for your country of residence. Tokyo also serves residents of South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, and takes applications in person or through a proxy, or by courier for some applicants who email first. London says visas outside the exemption need pre-authorisation from the immigration authorities in Mozambique.

Mozambique visa photo FAQ
For an embassy visa in Tokyo, 35 x 45 mm (3.5 x 4.5 cm). London and Washington ask for two passport-size colour photos without giving a size. The eVisa and ETA portal asks for a recent passport-style photo and sets no dimensions.
A recent, passport-style frontal photo, uploaded with a colour copy of your passport bio page. The portal accepts scanned documents in JPEG, PDF or PNG. It publishes no pixel size or background colour, so a clear front-facing photo on a plain light background is the sensible choice.
evisa.gov.mz, run for the Serviço Nacional de Migração and linked by the Mozambican missions in London and Tokyo. Its Apply button leads to the application system operated with VFS Global. Begin there rather than at an agency site.
Yes, for the 29 countries in Decree 10/2023. London says they must apply for prior authorisation on evisa.gov.mz before travelling, and Tokyo sets a minimum of 48 hours before departure. Neighbours such as South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe follow separate visa-free rules.
Tokyo asks for one print, London for two colour photos and Washington for two colour photos on a white background. Tokyo also asks you to write your name on the back and needs no new photo when you reapply in the same year.
Tokyo says arrival tourist visas are issued at border posts, including international airports, to travellers from countries without a Mozambican embassy or consulate. Others should obtain the right visa or authorisation before travelling, and should ask their airline whether boarding is possible.
Washington requires colour photos with a white background. The eVisa portal, Tokyo and London do not name a colour, so a plain white background meets every rule found.
