Poland photo specifications
Photo sizes and rules for 3 documents issued in Poland, taken from the issuing authorities and linked to their official pages.
At a glance
All three Polish documents use a 35 x 45 mm colour photo with the face filling 70% to 80% of the frame, taken in the last six months. The passport and the ID card (dowód osobisty) share one set of rules, and the ID card also takes a file of at least 492 x 633 pixels online. Visa photos, 3.5 x 4.5 cm on white, are printed and handed in at a consulate.
Overview
A Polish passport photo is one 35 x 45 mm colour print on a white, evenly lit background with the face filling 70 to 80% of the frame, and the only digital route, the online passport for children under 12, takes a file of at least 768 x 1004 pixels. Three different authorities issue the documents covered here. Passports come from the voivode, through passport points in Poland, or from a Polish consul abroad. ID cards are issued by municipal offices (gminy) and can be applied for only in Poland: in person, online or in the mObywatel app. Visas for foreigners are issued by Polish consuls under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with applications registered in e-Konsulat.
The passport and ID card rules use the same wording in two Acts, and the Ministry of the Interior and Administration publishes one photo guide for both: a white, evenly lit background, a natural expression and a closed mouth. Their digital routes differ. ID card files must be at least 492 x 633 pixels, while the online passport route, open only for children under 12, needs at least 768 x 1004 pixels. Visa photos are always prints.

Frequently asked questions
In size and rules, yes: both are 35 x 45 mm colour photos, under six months old, with the face filling 70% to 80%. A print that meets the gov.pl guide works at either office. Only the digital minimums differ: 492 x 633 pixels for the ID card and 768 x 1004 pixels for an online child passport.
The ID card, through the government's online service or the mObywatel app, and the passport for a child under 12, through the gov.pl e-service. Adult passports and visas need a printed photo handed over in person.
No. ID card applications are made only in Poland, at any municipal office or online, and the card cannot be collected at a consulate. Polish consulates do issue passports.
White. gov.pl asks for an evenly lit white background for passports and ID cards, and consulate visa checklists ask for white too. The Acts and the visa regulation describe it as a uniform light background.
Corrective glasses are allowed if your eyes are clearly visible, the frames leave your eyebrows uncovered and the lenses do not reflect light. Dark glasses need a disability certificate. A head covering worn for religious reasons is accepted with a certificate of membership of a religious community registered in Poland, provided the whole face oval and the line of the ears stay uncovered.
