Quick answer

What size is the Sudan visa photo?

Sudanese embassies take printed photos with the visa form, and each sets its own rule. Berlin asks for one 35 x 45 mm photo, Tokyo for two photos of 3 cm x 2.5 cm taken within 6 months and signed on the back, and Washington, London, The Hague and New Delhi for passport-size photos without dimensions. No embassy page read names a background colour. Non-Sudanese applicants usually need an entry permit number, obtained by a sponsor in Sudan, before the embassy can issue the visa.

A visa for Sudan is issued by a Sudanese embassy or consulate, but the decision often starts in Sudan. London explains that a non-Sudanese applicant's sponsor in Sudan must first obtain a unique entry permit number from the Aliens Department of the Ministry of Interior; the embassy issues the visa once that number reaches it through official channels. Visas for diplomats, officials and international organisations wait for approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Entry and exit control and immigration services for foreigners belong to the General Directorate of Passports and Immigration.

No official Sudanese e-visa portal was found for this guide. The embassy pages read describe paper forms, or an embassy's own online form, followed by submission in person or by post, with photographs attached as prints. Sudanese nationals who hold a foreign passport apply directly to the embassy and must show a Sudanese ID.

Key requirements

  • Each embassy sets the photo

There is no single Sudanese visa photo rule on an official page. Follow the visa page of the mission where you apply, because the size and number of photos differ between Berlin, Tokyo, Washington, London, The Hague and New Delhi.

  • Berlin: one 35 x 45 mm photo

The Berlin embassy's Arabic conditions sheet asks for one photograph of 45mm X 35mm, alongside the visa form and the new entry form used with its fingerprint system. Its English web page simply says one passport-size photo.

  • Tokyo: two signed photos

Tokyo wants two photographs of 3 cm x 2.5 cm, taken within six months of the application, with the applicant's signature as in the passport on the back, plus two original completed forms.

  • One photo per form elsewhere

Washington asks for one passport sized photo attached to the form and London for one passport-size photo. New Delhi wants two forms with a recent passport-size photo on each, and The Hague asks for two passport-size photographs.

  • Entry permit or approval first

For non-Sudanese visitors, London and The Hague require an entry permit from the Ministry of Interior's aliens department; London says a sponsor in Sudan applies for it. For Berlin, a tourist visa can rest on an entry approval number from the Ministry's borders and aliens section, and official visas wait for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • Passport validity

Your passport must be valid for at least six months. Berlin also asks for three blank pages, and Tokyo for a blank double-page spread.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Read the visa page of the embassy where you will apply
  • Attach the photo to the application form as the embassy instructs
  • Sign the back of each photo if you apply in Tokyo
  • Ask your sponsor in Sudan to obtain the entry permit number first
  • Fill in a separate form, with its own photo, for each child

Don't

  • Do not assume one embassy's photo size applies at another
  • Do not use a photo older than six months for a Tokyo application
  • Do not expect an official e-visa upload; none was found on official pages
  • Do not post an ordinary visit or tourist visa application to London unless you are of Sudanese origin

Too far: head too small

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.

Babies and children

Washington's visa form says every applicant must fill out a separate form, even children under 16, so each child needs a form and a photo of their own.

Parental consent rules apply on top. Washington asks for written consent from the father, with a copy of his ID, for applicants under 18 who are Sudanese nationals with foreign passports, and a no-objection letter signed by the father if they travel without their parents. Berlin asks a parent travelling alone with children to attach the other parent's consent certified by a notary.

Sudan visa photos are prints attached to the application form. None of the embassy pages read takes a digital photo file, and no official electronic visa system was found.

If you take the photo with a phone, it can be cropped and resized to the embassy's size, for example 35 x 45 mm for Berlin, and printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter.

Where to submit the photo

London requires ordinary visit and tourist applications to be handed in at the embassy; official visas and applications from people of Sudanese origin can go by post or courier. Washington takes walk-in and mailed applications, and posts documents back only if you include a prepaid return envelope with tracking. Berlin asks for a stamped return envelope, Tokyo does not accept mail but allows a proxy with its designated form, and The Hague has an online form on its visa page.
