At a glance

The document covered for Peru is the electronic passport. It has no print size to meet, because Migraciones photographs applicants in Peru and the consular offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs do so abroad; no official source sets 2 x 2 inches. Prints, passport-size, in colour and on white, are asked for only with the 7-month emergency passport that consulates issue to travellers who cannot wait.

Overview

Two public bodies issue Peruvian passports. Inside the country it is the Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones, through its own offices, two Migracentros and the MAC citizen-service centres; outside it is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through consulates and the consular sections of embassies. Both record the image and fingerprints during an in-person visit, and the DNI is the core document in either place.

The channels differ mainly in emergencies. In Peru, an urgent application still produces the electronic passport, photographed at the office or at Jorge Chávez airport. Abroad, a traveller who cannot wait for one may ask a consulate for an emergency passport instead, and that request is the one that needs printed photographs.
