At a glance

Slovenian citizens hold the Slovenian passport, applied for at an administrative unit in Slovenia or at a mission abroad. Since 2 April 2026 the photo is digital: a registered e-photographer saves it and gives you a reference number to submit. A paper photograph, 3.5 x 4.5 cm (35 x 45 mm) on white glossy photographic paper, is accepted only in exceptions, such as an application at a mission abroad.

Overview

The interior ministry (Ministrstvo za notranje zadeve in javno upravo) is behind the Slovenian passport, and you apply at any administrative unit (upravna enota) or at a Slovenian diplomatic mission or consulate abroad. The photo no longer comes from you in Slovenia: an authorised e-photographer captures and stores it, and you hand over the reference number certificate.

A printed 3.5 x 4.5 cm photograph is the exception route, for illness or disability, an application outside the office, or a mission abroad. The passport page covers the face, background, glasses and headwear rules and the mission pages we read.
