Quick answer

What are the Syria visa photo requirements?

No Syrian authority currently publishes a visa photo size. Entry is governed by Foreign Ministry Decision No. 128 of 1 July 2025, which the ministry said in April 2026 was unchanged. The e-visa portal showed only "Coming Soon" in August and October 2026, and the Prague embassy tells Czech citizens that their visa is issued at the border. If a Syrian mission asks you for photos, follow its own instructions.

A Syrian visa is an entry or transit permit for people who are not Syrian citizens. Under Law No. 2 of 2014 on the entry and residence of foreigners, the Interior Minister, in coordination with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, decides the types of visa, who may grant them and on what conditions, and the Foreign Minister sets the fees. A visa can be issued by a Syrian embassy or consulate or by another body the government appoints. Nationals of countries where Syria has no diplomatic representation can receive an entry or transit visa directly at the immigration and passports centre on the border once the fee is paid.

The procedure in force is Foreign Ministry Decision No. 128 of 1 July 2025. In April 2026 the ministry told SANA that nothing in it had changed, and the director of the Immigration and Passports Directorate denied reports that visitors now needed a sponsor. The text of the decision was not available to us, and no current Syrian page that we could read sets a visa photo size, so the 40 x 60 mm format in the photo tool is not an official requirement.

Key requirements

  • Decision No. 128 still applies

The Foreign Ministry said on 29 April 2026 that entry to Syria still follows Decision No. 128 of 1 July 2025 without any change, including for travellers from the Maghreb countries.

  • Some visas are issued at the border

Law No. 2 of 2014 lets nationals of countries without a Syrian mission get the visa at the border centre after paying the fee. The Prague embassy says visas for Czech citizens are issued at border crossings.

  • A visa does not guarantee entry

Under Article 4 of the same law, a visa granted by a Syrian embassy or consulate does not give the right to enter Syria if the competent border centre does not agree.

  • The e-visa portal is not open

Internet Archive captures of 28 August and 1 October 2026 show the official e-visa portal with only a "Coming Soon" message and no application form.

  • No visa service in the consular list

The Foreign Ministry's online list of consular services, captured in August 2026, covers services for Syrians such as passports and civil status documents but contains no visa application.

  • Photo rules come from the mission

No current national photo rule is published for visas. Where an embassy or consulate takes paper applications, its own checklist sets the number of photos and their size.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Ask the Syrian embassy or consulate for your country how your visa is issued before you travel
  • Check whether your nationality receives the visa at the border, as Czech citizens do
  • Have the fee ready in US dollars if your visa is issued at a border crossing
  • Follow the photo instructions of the mission handling your application, if it asks for photos

Don't

  • Do not count on applying online while the official e-visa portal shows Coming Soon
  • Do not assume an embassy visa guarantees entry; the border centre must also agree
  • Do not print 40 x 60 mm photos because a website says so; no Syrian authority publishes that size
  • Do not rely on rumours of new entry rules; the ministry said in April 2026 that nothing had changed

Glasses

No current Syrian visa source sets a rule on glasses, headwear or expression. The only Syrian mission visa page with photo rules that we found was the Stockholm embassy page on the ministry's old website. It asked for two photos taken directly facing the camera against a plain white background and no older than six months, and said nothing about glasses. By January 2026 that address only led to the ministry's new home page.

There is no working online channel at present. The official e-visa portal, which in 2024 took applications from Arab and foreign visitors, displayed only "Coming Soon" in the August and October 2026 captures, so no upload size or file rule is in force.

For visas issued at a border crossing, the official material we read mentions no photo: the Prague embassy lists only the visa types and says the consular fee is collected in US dollars or the equivalent at the Central Bank of Syria rate. Where a mission still takes paper applications, it decides how many photos it needs and in what size.

Where to submit the photo

Through a Syrian embassy or consulate that issues visas, or at the border. Law No. 2 of 2014 also allows the director of immigration and passports to admit nationals of any country after checks. Entry and exit are only through places set by the Interior Minister, and the passport is stamped on arrival and departure.

The Prague embassy lists four kinds of visa for Czech citizens: a single entry valid for one month, two entries within three months, multiple entries within six months, and a single-entry transit visa for 15 days.

How to get your Syria visa photo

  1. Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Syria visa: no current rule background. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
  2. Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: decision No. 128 still applies; some visas are issued at the border; a visa does not guarantee entry; the e-visa portal is not open.
  3. Prepare a print or digital file. There is no working online channel at present. The official e-visa portal, which in 2024 took applications from Arab and foreign visitors, displayed only "Coming Soon" in the August and October 2026 captures, so no upload size or file rule is in force.
  4. Submit the photo with your application. Through a Syrian embassy or consulate that issues visas, or at the border. Law No. 2 of 2014 also allows the director of immigration and passports to admit nationals of any country after checks.

Syria visa photo FAQ

No Syrian authority currently publishes one. Entry rules follow Decision No. 128 of 1 July 2025, whose text we could not read, and no current embassy page we found sets a size. If a mission asks for photos, use the size it gives.

Not at the moment. The official e-visa portal displayed only "Coming Soon" in Internet Archive captures of 28 August and 1 October 2026, with no application form. Check with a Syrian mission before planning around an online visa.

Some travellers can. Law No. 2 of 2014 lets nationals of countries where Syria has no diplomatic mission receive the visa at the border centre after paying the fee, and the Prague embassy says Czech citizens get theirs at border crossings.

The Foreign Ministry said on 29 April 2026 that there was no change: entry still follows Decision No. 128 of 1 July 2025. The director of immigration and passports also denied reports that visitors from the Maghreb needed a sponsor.

No. Article 4 of Law No. 2 of 2014 says a visa granted by a Syrian embassy or consulate does not give the right to enter if the competent border centre does not agree.

No. A visa is for non-Syrians. A Syrian without a valid passport can ask a mission for a one-time laissez-passer to travel home, and the Foreign Ministry asks for two personal photos, 4 x 4 in size, with a white background.
