Quick answer

What are the Jordan visa photo requirements?

Jordan publishes no photo size for its visas. Since 19 March 2023 visas are applied for online on the Ministry of Interior's e-services portal, and Jordan's national portal says to upload a passport-sized photo with a copy of your passport, which must be valid for at least six months. Nationalities eligible for a visa on arrival fill in forms and pay at the border. The Jordan Pass is not a visa; it waives the single-entry visa fee.

Visas for Jordan are issued by the Ministry of Interior, with approvals from the Public Security Directorate and, where needed, Jordan's embassies. Since 19 March 2023 applications go through the ministry's e-services site and mobile app rather than through embassies: the embassy in Washington announced that the electronic service replaced its own visa issuing, and the embassy in Berlin says all holders of foreign passports apply exclusively on the ministry's site.

The portal has two routes. Nationalities that need no prior approval apply for an electronic visa directly, without registering, by entering their passport details. Other nationalities register an account and choose a visa type, such as a visit, transit, exit and re-entry, study or work visa. The ministry may ask for extra details, an affidavit or a personal interview at the nearest Jordanian embassy, and once the fee is paid the e-visa is issued as a PDF to print.

For the photo, the national portal Jordan Gate lists a passport-sized photo among the required documents and tells e-visa applicants to upload it with a copy of their passport. Neither the portal nor the ministry gives a size, background colour, pixel count or file limit.

Key requirements

  • Online through the Ministry of Interior

Visa applications are made on the Ministry of Interior's e-services site or its official app for iOS and Android. Embassies no longer issue visas over the counter.

  • Upload a passport-sized photo

Jordan Gate's e-visa steps are to complete the online form, upload the documents including a passport-sized photo and a copy of your passport, and pay the fee on the secure portal.

  • Passport valid for six months

The passport or travel document used for the visa must be valid for at least six months. The ministry's service cards ask for a copy of it.

  • No published photo specification

The ministry's user manual, its service cards and the national portal give no photo size, background, pixel or file limits. The manual says only that the system tells you which attachments to add.

  • Visa on arrival for some nationalities

Citizens of countries that are not restricted can get a visa on arrival at entry points such as Queen Alia International Airport, by filling in the forms and paying the fee there.

  • Jordan Pass is not a visa

The Jordan Pass waives the fee of a single-entry visa if you stay at least two whole nights (three days) and buy it before arrival. You still need the visa itself.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Apply on the Ministry of Interior e-services site or its official app
  • Upload a passport-sized photo together with a copy of your passport
  • Check that your passport is valid for at least six months
  • Check first whether your nationality can get a visa on arrival
  • Print the approved e-visa PDF before you travel
  • Enter your Jordan Pass details if the portal asks for them

Don't

  • Do not post a visa application to an embassy
  • Do not treat the Jordan Pass as a visa
  • Do not travel on a passport with less than six months left
  • Do not ignore a request for an interview or extra details

Headwear and religious dress

Jordan publishes no rules on head coverings or glasses for the visa photo. The only written requirement is that the upload is a passport-sized photo.

The illustrated photo guide of the Civil Status and Passports Department, which allows head coverings for religious reasons only and bans sunglasses, is written for Jordanian citizens' documents and is not stated to apply to visas.

The e-visa is digital from start to finish: you upload the photo and the passport copy, pay the fee through the electronic payment portal (or at the airport, if the ministry offers that choice), and print the issued e-visa from the portal. No printed photo is sent anywhere.

For a visa on arrival, Jordan Gate describes the process as filling in the required forms and paying the visa fee on arrival at the airport or border crossing, and it does not mention a photo.

No pixel size is published for the upload. A digital photo can be cropped and resized to passport proportions, or printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter if you also want prints.

Where to submit the photo

Apply on the Ministry of Interior's e-services portal, where individuals and organisations can register, or through the ministry's mobile app. Applications must be made from outside Jordan. Notifications arrive by text message and email, and you can track the application status, add requested details and pay from your account.

If the ministry asks for a personal interview, you can visit the nearest Jordanian embassy with your electronic application number, as most embassies have access to the system. At Aqaba airport and some land crossings the rules differ by nationality, so check whether you need a visa in advance.

  2. Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: online through the Ministry of Interior; upload a passport-sized photo; passport valid for six months; no published photo specification.
  3. Prepare a print or digital file. The e-visa is digital from start to finish: you upload the photo and the passport copy, pay the fee through the electronic payment portal (or at the airport, if the ministry offers that choice), and print the issued e-visa from the portal.
  4. Submit the photo with your application. Apply on the Ministry of Interior's e-services portal, where individuals and organisations can register, or through the ministry's mobile app. Applications must be made from outside Jordan.

Jordan visa photo FAQ

No size is published. Jordan's national portal asks e-visa applicants to upload a passport-sized photo with a copy of their passport, and the Ministry of Interior gives no dimensions, background colour or pixel count for it.

Jordan Gate describes the visa on arrival as filling in the required forms and paying the visa fee at the airport or border crossing. It does not list a photo for that route; the passport-sized photo is listed for the e-visa.

The Jordan Pass FAQ mentions no personal photo. The pass is emailed to you as a PDF and an image, which you show printed to the passport officer. It waives the single-entry visa fee if you stay at least two whole nights; it is not a visa.

Not in the old way. The embassy in Washington announced that from 19 March 2023 e-visa applications are processed and issued only through the Ministry of Interior, replacing visas issued at the embassy. An embassy may still interview you if the ministry asks.

Jordan Gate lists a passport valid for at least six months, a passport-sized photo, a flight itinerary and hotel reservation details. The ministry's visit visa card also asks for proof of the relationship or reason for the visit and, where relevant, your residence permit abroad.

At least six months. Both the national portal and the Ministry of Interior's service cards set six months as the minimum validity of the passport or travel document used for the visa.
