At a glance

Ghanaian passport applicants upload a photo on a white background, listed as 140 x 170 pixels in JPEG or PDF, and are photographed again at the Passport Application Centre or mission. Visitors applying for the Ghana e-Visa upload a recent colour photo of about 3.5 x 4.5 cm on a plain white or light background, with no filters or digital changes.

Overview

A Ghanaian passport photo is a digital upload, not a print: a white background, a standard passport-size image listed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal as 140 x 170 pixels in JPEG or PDF, taken within the last 6 months, after which a new photo is taken at enrolment.

The two documents come from different authorities. Passports are issued by the Passport Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration: citizens apply on the Ministry's online portal, upload a photo, and then attend a Passport Application Centre in Ghana or a mission abroad for biometric capture, where a new photo is taken.

Visas are the work of the Ghana Immigration Service. Since 25 May 2026 visitors apply on the e-Visa portal, which GIS runs with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and upload their photo there. No prints are needed for either document; the photos differ in background wording and in the upload rules each portal sets.
