This guide covers the Malian biometric passport, the one Mali document listed here. The Bamako passport office asks for 2 colour identity photos. Embassies add a white background and set their own number of prints. The only size on record is the Tokyo embassy's 45 x 35 mm.

Overview

Malian passports are issued by the Direction de la Police des Frontières, under the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection, in Bamako. Citizens abroad apply at an embassy or consulate, which collects the file, the payment receipt and the fingerprints before the passport is produced in Mali.

No central photo specification is published, so the checklist of your own mission is the reference. The Tokyo embassy announced on 16 December 2025 that applications for the new e-passeport AES Mali had started, and its notice left the list of documents unchanged.
