Quick answer

What size is the Namibia visa photo?

Namibia's online visa and visa-on-arrival application, on the Ministry of Home Affairs' e-services portal, asks for a scanned recent passport photo of 300 KB to 2 MB and publishes no dimensions. Missions differ: Berlin asks for 2 colour photos of 2 x 2 inches on white, taken within 3 months; Brussels asks for two identical colour photos; London asks for one. No official source read gives 37 x 52 mm, and an earlier Berlin page that said 45mm x 35mm has been replaced.

Visas for Namibia are decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, and most travellers now apply on its e-services portal. The ministry's fact sheet (version 4, dated 28 May 2025) says nationals of countries that have not reciprocated Namibia's visa exemption must apply for a visa to enter, a policy that began on 1 April 2025. It lists the holiday visa (e-visa), the online visa on arrival and the short-term employment permit as services you apply for online. E-visas can only be applied for from outside Namibia.

The fact sheet's photo rules are short. Step 5 of the online visa-on-arrival application says to "Attach scanned passport copy and passport photo (Size requirement 300 KB - 2MB)", and the list of documents for online applications asks for a "recent passport photo". It gives no millimetre size, no pixel size and no background colour. The manual visa-on-arrival route, with a paper form at the immigration counter, lists no photo at all.

Missions that still take paper visa applications write their own lists. Berlin's tourism visa page wants two 2" x 2" colour photographs, Brussels wants two identical colour passport photographs, and the London High Commission lists one current photo. Berlin's consular services page adds that the embassy now issues visas only to diplomatic and official passport holders, so the two Berlin pages disagree on who can apply there.

Key requirements

  • Most travellers apply online

The ministry's fact sheet sends visa applicants to its e-services portal for the holiday e-visa, the online visa on arrival and the short-term employment permit. An approved e-visa also serves as your arrival form.

  • Upload a 300 KB to 2 MB scan

The online steps say to attach a scanned passport copy and passport photo, with a size requirement of 300 KB to 2MB. Keep your digital file inside that range; no dimensions are given.

  • A recent passport photo

For online applications the fact sheet asks for a "recent passport photo" alongside a passport valid for 6 months with 3 blank pages. It sets no time limit.

  • Berlin wants 2 x 2 inch colour prints

For an in-person tourism visa, Berlin asks for two 2" x 2" colour photographs taken within three months, with a clear front view of the face and a white background.

  • Other missions give a count, not a size

Brussels asks for two identical colour passport photographs for tourist and business visas, and London lists one current passport photo with a three-month age limit. Neither gives dimensions.

  • No official 37 x 52 mm size

No ministry or mission page read for this guide gives 37 x 52 mm. A 45mm x 35mm requirement that Berlin once published has been replaced by the 2 x 2 inch wording.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Use the ministry's e-services portal if you are eligible to apply online.
  • Keep the photo file between 300 KB and 2 MB for the upload.
  • Take a recent photo with a clear front view of your face.
  • Use a white background for any paper application at a mission.
  • Ask the mission for its photo count and size before you print.

Don't

  • Do not exceed the 2 MB upload limit or go below 300 KB.
  • Do not wear sleeveless clothing or glasses in a Berlin visa photo.
  • Do not wear earrings if you are a man applying in Berlin.
  • Do not submit a blurred or low-quality photo.
  • Do not assume 37 x 52 mm: no visa page gives that size.

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.

Glasses

Berlin says "No sleeveless attire and eyeglasses" for its tourism visa photographs, so remove your glasses for a Berlin application. Men should not wear earrings there, and blurred or low-quality photos are not accepted. The ministry's fact sheet, Brussels and London publish no glasses rule.

The ministry's portal takes a digital file, a scan of 300 KB to 2 MB attached to the application, and you print the approved e-visa to show at the port of entry. Paper visa applications at a mission need printed photos: Berlin asks for two 2" x 2" prints.

A digital photo can be cropped and resized to the shape a mission requests, or printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter and cut to size.

Where to submit the photo

Apply on the ministry's e-services portal before you travel, which reduces the time spent at the immigration counter. If you are eligible for a visa on arrival, you can also apply in person at the ports of entry the fact sheet names, where an e-visa and an in-person application are both accepted, though some airports and borders accept only e-visas.

Berlin's consular services page directs tourists and business or work visa applicants to the ministry's portal and keeps in-person visa issuing for diplomatic and official passports. Brussels and London still list paper applications. Lists of eligible countries and ports can change, so follow the ministry's visa updates.

How to get your Namibia visa photo

  1. Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Namibia visa: 2 × 2 in print, white background. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
  2. Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: most travellers apply online; upload a 300 KB to 2 MB scan; a recent passport photo; berlin wants 2 x 2 inch colour prints.
  3. Prepare a print or digital file. The ministry's portal takes a digital file, a scan of 300 KB to 2 MB attached to the application, and you print the approved e-visa to show at the port of entry. Paper visa applications at a mission need printed photos: Berlin asks for two 2" x 2" prints.
  4. Submit the photo with your application. Apply on the ministry's e-services portal before you travel, which reduces the time spent at the immigration counter.
