Oman passport photo requirements
The 40 × 60 mm photo rules set by Royal Oman Police for the Oman passport, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Oman passport photo?
No official page gives a size for the Omani passport photo. In Oman you apply online through the Royal Oman Police and then attend a service centre, in Omani official dress if you are 15 or older; the renewal checklist asks for no prints. Omani embassies want two recent personal photos in official dress with a white background. The 4 x 6 cm size appears only on ROP ID card and visa pages.
Omani passports are issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) through its General Directorate of Passports and Civil Status. Inside Oman, a new passport or a renewal starts with the Omani Passport Issuance e-service on the ROP website. It needs electronic authentication (PKI), a valid ID card and an applicant who is in the country at the time. For anyone under 18, or anyone without an ID card, the father submits the request; if he has died or is abroad, the application goes through a service centre instead.
After the online step, the passport holder goes to a service centre. Applicants aged 15 and over must attend in Omani official dress, a guardian must come with anyone under 18, and renewals need the original ID card, the old passport and the e-application number. Omanis abroad deal with an Omani embassy; the one in Abu Dhabi renews passports for one year only and asks for printed photos on a white background.

In the official words
Exact wording from the official sources, quoted because the details matter:
Two recent personal photos in official dress with a white background
Key requirements
- Official dress from age 15
The ROP requires passport applicants aged 15 and over to come to the service centre in Omani official dress, for a new passport and for a renewal. Its English page calls this attending "in Omani uniform".
- White background for embassy prints
To renew at the Omani Embassy in Abu Dhabi, hand in the expired passport and two recent personal photos in official dress with a white background. The embassy asks for the same two photos when a passport is lost, stolen or damaged.
- No dimensions are set
Neither the ROP nor the Foreign Ministry gives a size for the passport photo. The 4 x 6 cm size on the ROP site belongs to the ID card photo of young children and to visa applications.
- Online first, then in person
Applications start on the ROP website with PKI electronic authentication. The e-service checks the data, shows the fee and takes the payment; the passport is then issued after the holder attends a service centre.
- The father applies for minors
If the passport holder is under 18 or has no ID card, the person logging in must be the father, and the guardian must attend the service centre with his original ID card and the e-application number.
- Boys of 15 need an ID card first
gov.om says that a male passport holder aged 15 must first get an ID card and bring a copy of it when the passport is renewed.
- Embassy renewals last a year
The Omani Embassy in Abu Dhabi notes that passports renewed through it are valid for one year only.

- Do not send a passport holder under 18 to the centre without a guardian
- Do not expect an embassy renewal to last more than a year

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Headwear and religious dress
The ROP ties the passport to Omani official dress rather than to a list of headwear rules. Applicants aged 15 and over must attend the service centre in official dress, and Omani embassies ask for photos "in official dress" when they renew or replace a passport abroad. No official page describes what that dress must include for men or for women, and none mentions glasses or expression.
If you are unsure what counts as official dress, ask the service centre or the embassy before you go.
Babies and children
A child's passport is requested online by the father, and the guardian must come to the service centre with his original ID card and the e-application number. A child of 15 or older attends in official dress like an adult. gov.om lists personal attendance, a birth certificate, passports and personal photos for a first passport.
For a baby born abroad, the Omani Embassy in Abu Dhabi asks for two personal photos of the newborn with a white background, a certified birth certificate, copies of both parents' passports and ID cards, and a certified marriage contract. The embassy in Islamabad asks for four recent photos of the child.
Printed and digital photos
The ROP e-service description mentions no photo upload: it covers data entry, verification and payment, and the renewal checklist on gov.om asks only for the original expired passport. The printed photos named in current official texts are those for Omani missions abroad: two recent personal photos with a white background, or a recent photograph for a laissez-passer.
No dimensions are published for those prints. A digital photo can be printed on a 4x6 inch sheet at a photo counter and trimmed to the size the embassy asks for.
Where to submit the photo
In Oman: apply through the Omani Passport Issuance e-service on the ROP website, then attend a ROP service centre. If the guardian of a minor has died or is outside Oman, the application is made at a service centre from the start.
Abroad: contact the nearest Omani embassy or consulate. Missions issue a laissez-passer for a single journey to Oman when a passport is lost, stolen or damaged, and for an expired passport only in an emergency. The embassy in Abu Dhabi also renews passports.
How to get your Oman passport photo
- Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Oman passport: 40 × 60 mm print, white background. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
- Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: official dress from age 15; white background for embassy prints; no dimensions are set; online first, then in person.
- Prepare a print or digital file. The ROP e-service description mentions no photo upload: it covers data entry, verification and payment, and the renewal checklist on gov.om asks only for the original expired passport.
- Submit the photo with your application. In Oman: apply through the Omani Passport Issuance e-service on the ROP website, then attend a ROP service centre. If the guardian of a minor has died or is outside Oman, the application is made at a service centre from the start.
