Oman visa photo requirements
The 40 × 60 mm photo rules set by Royal Oman Police for the Oman visa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What size is the Oman visa photo?
Oman visas are issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and applied for on its eVisa portal. The ROP service cards on gov.om ask for a digital personal photo for most visit visas, without any pixel, file-size or colour limits. The ROP's own visa pages ask sponsors for two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm (40 x 60 mm). Citizens of more than 100 countries can visit for up to 14 days without a visa.
Entry visas for Oman are issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) through its Directorate General of Passports and Residence. Applications are made online on the ROP eVisa portal, and Omani embassies such as those in Abu Dhabi and Islamabad send visa applicants there. Tourists register on the portal themselves; visas that need a local sponsor are requested by the sponsor or the company's PRO, who must live in Oman and have a valid civil number.
Many visitors need no visa at all. Citizens of more than 100 countries and regions can stay up to 14 days visa-free with a passport valid for six months, a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking, health insurance and enough money for the stay, and GCC citizens need no visa. For everyone else, the photo rule depends on the visa type and is written as one line in the document list rather than as a specification.

Key requirements
- Apply on the eVisa portal
The Foreign Ministry says visa applications for Oman are available online through the ROP eVisa website. Omani embassies point applicants to the same site for visas of all kinds.
- A digital photo for visit visas
gov.om lists a copy of the passport and a digital personal photo for the one-year tourist visit visa, and a digital photo for the multiple-entry and emergency visas. The GCC resident visa asks for a personal photo and a copy of the residence card.
- Two 4 x 6 cm prints on ROP visa pages
The ROP's Arabic visa-type pages list two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm for visas such as the visit visa for relatives and friends, the express visa, the multiple-entry visa and the official visit visa.
- No file limits published
Neither the eVisa portal's public pages nor gov.om give a pixel size, file size, file format or background colour for the photo, so follow the prompts on the upload screen.
- 14 days without a visa
Visitors from the countries on the Foreign Ministry's two lists can stay 14 days without a visa. The stay cannot be extended or turned into a residence visa, and visitors on the second list must also hold a residence or valid visa for the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, the Schengen area or Japan, or a GCC residence.
- Sponsors request sponsored visas
Visas that need a local sponsor are filed on the eVisa portal by the sponsor, employer or a licensed tourism company. Sponsor registration is only open to residents of Oman with a valid civil number.
- Apply from outside Oman
For the one-year tourist visa and the multiple-entry visa, the applicant must be outside Oman, must not hold another valid visa and needs a passport valid for at least six months.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Check whether your nationality can enter visa-free for 14 days
- Apply on the ROP eVisa portal
- Keep a digital photo ready to upload with your passport copy
- Have two 4 x 6 cm photos if your sponsor asks for prints
- Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months
Don't
- Do not apply for a one-year tourist visa while you are in Oman
- Do not apply for a multiple-entry visa while you hold another valid Oman visa
- Do not overstay a 14-day visa-free entry; it cannot be extended

Illustrations, not real photos. The official rules above always take priority; some documents do not allow glasses at all.
Headwear and religious dress
None of the ROP visa pages, the eVisa portal's public pages or the Foreign Ministry's entry visa page mentions head coverings, glasses or expression for a visa photo. The only photo detail they give is the number of prints and their 4 x 6 cm size, or the fact that the photo is digital.
Babies and children
The visa-free facility extends to the husband, wife and children of an eligible visitor, even if they are not nationals of an eligible country. No official page sets separate photo rules for a child's visa.
Printed and digital photos
Most visas are now applied for online, and the gov.om service cards name the photo as a digital personal photo, next to a copy of the passport. No pixel size, file size, file format or background is published for it, on gov.om or on the public pages of the eVisa portal, so follow the instructions on the upload screen.
The ROP's visa-type pages, written for sponsors, still list two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm. If a sponsor asks you for prints, a 4x6 inch sheet from a photo counter can be cut to that size.
Where to submit the photo
Tourists apply on the ROP eVisa portal after registering as a tourist. Sponsored visit, tourist and work visas are filed on the same portal by the sponsor or PRO, and sponsored tourist visas, valid for 30 days and extendable, go through tourism companies licensed in Oman.
GCC citizens need no visa. Visitors eligible for the 14-day exemption arrive with the documents the Foreign Ministry lists. The ROP eVisa call centre and email address answer questions about applications.
How to get your Oman visa photo
- Check the official requirements. Read the official specification for the Oman visa: 40 × 60 mm print. Check the rules on pose, expression, glasses and headwear below.
- Take the photo. Follow the key requirements: apply on the eVisa portal; a digital photo for visit visas; two 4 x 6 cm prints on ROP visa pages; no file limits published.
- Prepare a print or digital file. Most visas are now applied for online, and the gov.om service cards name the photo as a digital personal photo, next to a copy of the passport.
- Submit the photo with your application. Tourists apply on the ROP eVisa portal after registering as a tourist.
Oman visa photo FAQ
The ROP's visa-type pages ask for two personal photos of 4 x 6 cm (40 x 60 mm). For online applications, gov.om lists a digital personal photo and gives no size, and the eVisa portal's public pages publish no photo specification.
No official visa page states one. The ROP visa pages, the gov.om service cards and the Foreign Ministry's entry visa page say nothing about the background of the photo.
None are published on the portal's public pages or on gov.om. The service cards only ask for a digital personal photo and a copy of the passport. Check the instructions on the upload screen when you apply.
Not always. The Foreign Ministry says visitors from more than 100 countries and regions can stay up to 14 days without a visa, with a passport valid for six months, a return ticket, a hotel booking, health insurance and enough money. GCC citizens need no visa.
The sponsor. Visit, tourist and work visas that need a local sponsor are filed on the eVisa portal by the sponsor or its PRO, who must be a resident of Oman with a valid civil number. Sponsored tourist visas go through licensed tourism companies.
Omani embassies refer visa applicants to the ROP eVisa website. The embassy in Abu Dhabi, for example, tells visitors to request visas of all kinds there, and the embassy in Islamabad says visa applications should be submitted directly online.
