At a glance

Ugandan e-passport photos are captured at biometric enrolment at a passport office or mission, so DCIC lists no prints and publishes no size; only Abuja lists two passport-size photographs. Uganda visa applicants upload a recent passport-size photograph to the e-visa portal as JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF between 5 KB and 250 KB, with no pixel size or background published.

Overview

Both documents are issued by the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), and both start online, but the photo is handled differently. Citizens apply for the East African e-passport on the passport portal and then enrol in person in Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara, Gulu or at a mission, where the photo is taken with their biometrics.

Foreign visitors apply for a visa on the e-visa portal and upload a recent passport-size photograph with their other documents. DCIC sets file limits for that upload but no dimensions, and visitors give their biometrics at the border when the visa is issued.

Frequently asked questions

In most cases no. DCIC's passport checklists list no photographs, and the Washington embassy says your photo will be taken during the process. The High Commission in Abuja is an exception and lists two recent passport-size photographs for a new passport.

A recent passport-size photograph, uploaded with the application. The portal accepts JPEG, PNG, BMP or PDF files between 5 KB and 250 KB. DCIC publishes no pixel size or background colour for it.

The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs issues both. The Washington embassy says passports for applicants who enrol there are printed in Kampala, and visas are applied for on DCIC's e-visa portal.
