At a glance
The Mauritian passport is the document covered here. The Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) issues it and does not take photos, so applicants at home and abroad supply two identical, professionally printed photos, 35 to 40 mm wide and 45 to 50 mm high, on a light background and no older than six months.
Overview
The Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) in Port Louis deals with passports for Mauritian citizens, whether by birth, descent, adoption, registration or naturalisation, as well as visas and residence permits for foreign nationals. Passport forms are available from the PIO main office and sub-offices, from any police station, from Mauritian missions overseas or from the PIO website.
Citizens living abroad lodge passport applications through the high commissions, embassies and consulates listed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade. The photo rules do not change with the channel: two matching prints accompany every application, wherever it is made.
