At a glance

Mayotte residents hold the French passport, and its photo measures 35 x 45 mm (1.38 x 1.77 in) on a plain light background, white excluded. You apply in person at one of the 17 town halls, usually bringing a photo from a professional or approved booth; the counter may take it only where no photographer is available.

Overview

Mayotte is a French overseas department, so there is no separate local passport: residents carry the same biometric French passport as people elsewhere in France, with the national photo norm. The Ministry of the Interior sets the norm and the national agency France Titres (ANTS) runs the application system, while the prefecture of Mayotte points applicants to the town halls.

According to the prefecture, the application is collected and handed in at one of the 17 town halls, and you must be present both to file and to collect. The photo must be under six months old. Mayotte is one of the places where service-public allows the counter to take the picture when no professional photographer is able to, at an extra cost. The document page gives the full rules and the local sources.
