At a glance

Zimbabwean passport applications made through an embassy need two colour photos of 3.5 x 4.5 cm (35 x 45 mm) on a strictly white background, with no glasses or jewellery. Zimbabwe visas are mostly applied for online: the eVisa portal asks for a recent face picture as a JPEG, PNG or PDF under 1 MB, and no visa photo size or background is published.

Overview

Two different departments handle the documents on this page. The Civil Registry Department, under the Registrar General, issues Zimbabwean passports, including the e-passport issued since January 2022. Applicants in Zimbabwe apply online and book an enrolment appointment, while those abroad apply on paper at an embassy with two printed photos.

Visas for visitors are issued by the Department of Immigration. Most travellers either apply on its eVisa portal, which takes an uploaded face picture, or buy a visa at the port of entry, where embassies list two passport-size photos. The passport rules give a precise size and background; the visa rules do not.

Not for the eVisa, which takes an uploaded face picture as a JPEG, PNG or PDF under 1 MB. For a visa bought at the port of entry, the embassies in Washington and Paris list two passport-size photos, and the paper visa form also asks for two.

Zimbabwean citizens in Zimbabwe use the Civil Registry Department's passport portal to book an enrolment appointment. Visitors use the Department of Immigration's eVisa portal. The Department has warned against third-party visa websites.
