At a glance

Visitors to Madagascar need a visa, and the photo depends on the route. Embassy applications take a print: 3.5 x 4.5 cm (35 x 45 mm) in Berlin and Brussels, 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in London, unsized in Paris. The official tourist eVisa and the airport counters publish no photo rule.

Overview

Visas for Madagascar are handled by two arms of the state. Malagasy embassies and consulates, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issue visas before travel and each publish their own checklist, including the photo line. The national police issue short tourist visas at airports and ports and run the official eVisa platform, which lets tourists pay online and collect the visa on arrival.

The difference matters for photos. Embassy files are on paper and the photo is a print glued or attached to the form, so the size follows the mission. The eVisa's published start list asks for no photo. Long-stay visas are always applied for at a mission first.
