Cuba photo specifications
Photo sizes and rules for 4 documents issued in Cuba, taken from the issuing authorities and linked to their official pages.
At a glance
Cuban consular photos are 4.5 x 4.5 cm (45 x 45 mm) prints. That size applies to Cuban passports applied for at a consulate (two photos, one stuck on the form), to visas handled by consulates, such as the family A-2 or business visas, and to residence abroad (RE) requests by Cuban citizens. The tourist card has been replaced by an electronic tourist visa that asks for no photo. Consulates ask for colour prints with a light background and no dark glasses.
Overview
Two ministries handle most Cuban travel documents. The Ministry of the Interior's immigration directorate, the Dirección de Identificación, Inmigración y Extranjería (called the Dirección de Identificación, Migración, Extranjería y Ciudadanía, DIMEC, in the 2026 migration laws), issues passports and decides migration status. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs runs the embassies and consulates where Cubans abroad apply and where foreigners obtain visas.
Photos depend on the channel. Consulates take printed 4.5 x 4.5 cm photos with paper forms: two for a passport, where the Ministry of the Interior consular form wants one stuck on it, two or four for a residence abroad request, and one or two for a consular visa. The electronic tourist visa is issued online against your passport number with no photo, and the D'Viajeros entry form follows it. Inside Cuba, residents over 18 can request a passport online since 26 May 2026, and neither that notice nor the regulation lists a photograph.
Cuba's new Migration Law and its regulation, published on 5 May 2026, take effect in November 2026, and some consular procedures are paused until then.
