At a glance
Two Dominican documents are covered. For the passport, the Dirección General de Pasaportes takes the photo at its office in the country, while consulates abroad ask for one recent 5 x 5 cm (50 x 50 mm) print on white. For a visa, embassies and consulates ask for one 4 x 5 cm (40 x 50 mm) photo, front view, on white; one block of the central ministry page lists 2 x 2 inches, so confirm the size with your consulate.
Overview
Two authorities handle these documents. The Dirección General de Pasaportes (DGP) issues passports in the Dominican Republic and takes the photograph at its offices when you apply in person. Abroad, passports go through Dominican consulates of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), which ask for a printed 5 x 5 cm photo.
Visas for the Dominican Republic are handled by MIREX, through its Dirección de Servicios Consulares and the embassies and consulates abroad. Applicants contact the office nearest to where they live, complete the visa form and hand in the checklist for their visa type, in person or by email. The ministry takes the final decision.
The visa photo rule is the same single line for every visa type read: one photograph, front view, white background, usually 4 x 5 cm. After arrival, the Dirección General de Migración formalises temporary residence for holders of a residence visa. Residence permits and other Dominican documents were not researched for this page set.
