Jordan photo specifications
Photo sizes and rules for 4 documents issued in Jordan, taken from the issuing authorities and linked to their official pages.
At a glance
Jordan publishes few photo sizes. Passports: CSPD asks for two colour photos at its offices or an upload online, with no size given; through the Washington embassy the photo is 2 x 2 inches on white. Smart ID cards: photographed at the civil status office. Visas: a passport-sized photo uploaded on the Ministry of Interior e-visa portal. Work permits: two personal photos of the worker in some Ministry of Labour instructions.
Overview
Three bodies handle Jordan's photo documents. The Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD) of the Ministry of Interior issues passports and the smart civil status ID card to citizens; the Ministry of Interior runs the e-visa and residence applications for foreigners; and the Ministry of Labour issues work permits to non-Jordanian workers.
How the photo is handled differs. For a passport you bring prints to a CSPD office, upload a photo online, or follow the embassy's rules abroad. The smart ID card photo is taken at the civil status office, and the card cannot be obtained at an embassy. Visa applicants upload a passport-sized photo, and work permit photos are handed in or attached by the employer. CSPD's illustrated guide based on ICAO Doc 9303 covers the photos it checks: a plain one-colour background, a neutral mouth, open eyes and head coverings for religious reasons only.

Frequently asked questions
No. CSPD, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labour publish no print size. The only official size found is 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) on white, on the Washington embassy's passport forms.
The smart civil status ID card. The registration officer at the civil status office takes the photo with your fingerprints and signature. First-time and lost-card applicants also bring a recent colour photo.
Not for the e-visa. Jordan's national portal asks you to upload a passport-sized photo and a passport copy on the Ministry of Interior's e-services site. No size or background colour is published for it.
For passport and ID card photos, CSPD allows a head covering for religious reasons only, with the face fully visible. The Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Labour publish no headwear rules for visas or work permits.
