Tajikistan eVisa photo requirements
The photo rules set by Main Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan for the Tajikistan eVisa, with the official wording and sources.
Quick answer
What are the Tajikistan eVisa photo requirements?
Tajikistan's e-visa is applied for only at evisa.tj, run by the Main Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It publishes no photo size, pixel dimensions or background colour. Attached files may be up to 1 MB; the portal accepts PDF, JPEG, GIF, BMP and PNG, while the ministry's consular site asks for JPEG, not PDF. Which documents you attach depends on your nationality.
Tajikistan introduced its electronic visa on 1 June 2016, and the current rules for it were approved by Government Resolution No. 31 of 25 January 2017. The visa is approved and issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the only official place to apply is the government portal evisa.tj, run by the ministry's Main Consular Department. The portal itself warns that numerous websites claim to help with Tajik e-visas for a service charge and are not endorsed by or associated with the Tajik Government.
The e-visa is for short visits for tourism and business, and you can only apply from outside Tajikistan. The ministry asks for an electronic copy of your passport or other travel document, which must be authentic beyond doubt and should normally stay valid for at least six months. Further documents depend on your nationality and are shown once you select it and your travel dates.
Neither the portal's published text nor the ministry's e-visa page sets any photograph rule: there is no size in millimetres, no pixel size and no background colour. What is published are the rules for attached files.
Tajikistan eVisa photo size and specifications
The requirements as published by Main Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan:[1]
| Print size | No size published: evisa.tj takes uploaded files, not prints |
|---|---|
| Digital size | No pixel size published; the upload step has its own crop tool |
| Background | Not published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or on evisa.tj |
| File size | Up to 1 MB per attached file; the portal also rejects files that are too small |
| File format | JPEG per the MFA Consular Department; the portal lists PDF, JPEG, GIF, BMP and PNG |
Key requirements
- Apply only on evisa.tj
The portal is run by the Main Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other websites that offer Tajik e-visas for a service charge are not endorsed by or associated with the Tajik Government, and the portal accepts no responsibility for them.
- Attachments of up to 1 MB
The application form states a maximum file size of 1 MB for each attached document. The Consular Department adds that the system will not accept a larger file. The portal also shows an error for a file that is too small, so do not compress an image until it is unreadable.
- JPEG is the safe format
The upload step lists PDF, JPEG, GIF, BMP and PNG as supported formats. The ministry's own e-visa page says the attached file must be JPEG, not PDF. A JPEG satisfies both statements.
- Document list depends on nationality
The portal says you need a travel document valid for at least six months from the date you intend to enter, and that further requirements depend on your nationality. You are told about them after you select your nationality and travel dates, and the form reports missing documents until every requested one has been uploaded.
- An authentic passport copy
The data you enter and the electronic copy of your passport or other document must be authentic beyond doubt. If the details on the issued e-visa do not fully match your travel document, the e-visa is invalid and you must apply again.
- Crop inside the form
Each uploaded image can be previewed and cropped with the portal's own crop tool before you submit, which is useful for trimming a scan of your passport data page or any other image to the relevant area.
Do's and don'ts
Do
- Apply directly on evisa.tj
- Save attachments as JPEG files of no more than 1 MB
- Make sure every detail matches your travel document
- Check the document list shown after you choose your nationality
- Print the e-visa and carry it with your passport
Don't
- Do not pay a third-party website that claims to process Tajik e-visas
- Do not upload a PDF where the MFA asks for JPEG
- Do not upload a file larger than 1 MB
- Do not apply while you are inside Tajikistan
Babies and children
There is no family application. The portal's answer to whether people travelling with you need their own e-visa is that each traveller must have a separate e-Visa, so a child needs an application of their own with their own travel document and attachments. No special photo rule for children is published.
Printed and digital photos
Everything for the e-visa is digital: you attach files to the online form and nothing is posted or handed in. No print size applies, and the portal publishes no photo dimensions to aim for. If a facial photograph appears in the list of documents for your nationality, prepare it as a JPEG under 1 MB, sharp enough to stay clear after any cropping in the form.
The output, by contrast, is a printout. After approval the e-visa is sent to your email as an A4 document, and the download link is also shown on the final step of the form. The ministry asks you to print it and keep it with your travel document.
Where to submit the photo
Apply on evisa.tj from outside Tajikistan. The e-visa application has no connection with Tajik embassies or consulates, so questions go to the e-Visa Support Desk through the portal's Contact Us page. Fees are paid by card only. British travel advice tells visitors to apply online for an e-visa from the Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travelling and to allow at least two weeks for processing.
If you plan to visit Gorno-Badakhshan (GBAO), select the permit on the e-visa form itself. E-visa holders are exempt from registration with the internal affairs authorities, and they may enter through any border point.
